Villa Location
Villa Vinales is located on the stretch of coast between Fuengirola and Marbella known as Hacienda Las Chapas. The beach at Marbesa is just 5 minutes' drive away and there are great facilities including supermarkets and restaurants in nearby Elviria. A 10 minute drive from the villa takes you the lovely harbour area of Cabopino. Alternatively, the famous Marina of Puerto Banus is great for people watching, designer shopping with a terrific choice of nightlife, approximately 20 minutes away by car.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

There is a supermarket in nearby Elviria, 5 minutes' drive away. In and around the towns of Marbella and Fuengirola, there are several large shopping centres to choose from and there are also streets full of local shops within the older part of the towns. Or, the weekly street market is held on Monday mornings in Marbella (except during fiestas) and in Fuengirola on Tuesdays.

Bars and restaurants

Around the Elviria area, close to Hacienda Las Chapas, there is a huge variety of bars, cafes and restaurants with an endless selection of menus to suit all pockets. A bit further up the coast, Fuengirola seafront is buzzing with places for wining and dining, day and night. And for the later hours, Puerto Banus Marina is the popular choice for many.

Marbesa Beach is the closest to the villa and has several beach bars. Not far up the coast, there is the beach at Cabopino harbour. Alternatively, if you fancy a livelier atmosphere Nikki Beach in Marbella is the place to be.

Family fun

In the heart of neighbouring Elviria there is Adventura Amazonia Park which offers adventure fun. For water parks, just head up to Fuengirola town where you will find the Aguamijas waterpark with a wave pool, slides and kid's play area, plus snack bars. Alternatively, the amusement park at Tivoli World is a huge favourite.

Places of interest

You can visit Gibraltar (don't forget your passports ). Or, make a day trip into Malaga city where there are museums to visit, the cathedral to see and ships visiting the port on a regular basis.

A round of golf at the Santa Maria Club is very popular and most golfers find it a pleasant and challenging course to play, less than 10 minutes' drive from Villa Vinales.

Activities and things to do
Santa Maria
This is a beautifully located course set in a wooded area with spectacular sea and mountain views. Considered to be one of the most cared for courses on the coast, the fairways have been planted with tifway 419 hybrid Bermuda grass as in Augusta for the Masters. The foreign membership is only outnumbered in August by visitors from Madrid who also come to enjoy a challenging but not too long a game of golf. The 6th hole is interesting for its tee off at the highest point of Santa Maria. On site also is a practice green, putting green, school, hire shop, tennis, bar and restaurant. The beach itself (Playa del Pinillo) is quite narrow, but safe and clean with toilet, restaurant and bar facilities. There is no promenade as such, but the beach can be accessed directly off the N340 coast road and parking is available on site.
Costa del Sol Equestrian Centre
This fine equestrian centre is located at the km 159 exit from the N340, 3 miles east of Estepona in the foothills of the Sierra Bermeja. On offer are excursions on horseback, carriage driving and riding lessons, a popular pony club, dressage, competitions and training for both riders and horses. Original choreography and traditional Andalucian music turn the shows into an unforgettable experience, with pure Andalucian horses performing cabriolas, levadas, piruetas and other exciting movements. Parque Acuatico Mijas
One of the most popular water parks on the coast is the Mijas Aquapark where the Adventure River ride, a 300ft winding raft slide awaits you.

Try surfing the wave pool or the huge kamikaze slide, bathe in the clear blue waters of the lake, or enjoy the twists and turns while speeding through the labyrinth slide to the pool at the bottom.

For young children and tiny tots Aqualandia has two water playgrounds and a shallow activity pool. All this set in lush gardens with a variety of sports facilities, great restaurants, picnic and bbq areas.

Compared to the hustle and bustle and cosmopolitan atmosphere of the Costa del Sol holiday resorts, Malaga is a very "Andalucian" city. The vast majority of holidaymakers pick up their hire car, venture no further than Malaga Airport and give the city itself a wide berth and in doing so they are missing a true opportunity to mix with the Andalucian people and see how life goes on.
Historically, Malaga dates back to the Phoenicians. It was then occupied by the Romans and afterwards the Moors occupied the city from the eighth century until 1487 when during the re-conquest, the Christians retook Malaga after a long and very bloody battle. The most recent fighting took place during the Spanish Civil War between 1936-1939 when the city, by supporting the Republican cause, was severely bombed by the Italians who had come to the aid of Franco's Nationalist side.
Anybody wishing to explore the city on their villa holiday, should do it on foot. Most of the sights are centred on Malaga's old quarter which is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and found around the cathedral, park and bullring areas. Most of the sights have a Moorish flavour but the discovery of a Roman theatre close to the Alcazaba has been very exciting.
Visit a traditional Spanish tapas bar. Visit the port and take a boat trip around the harbour. Shop at El Corte Ingles or better still in the little old fashioned shops in the old quarter. Hop on a bus up to the castle overlooking the city for fabulous views of the city and coast and finally spoil yourself with a drink at the adjacent Parador. Malaga Cathedral is also worth visiting on your holiday to Costa del Sol. It was built in the 16th century and is nicknamed 'La Manquita', the one-armed lady, due to one of the two towers never having been completed.
Malaga's beaches probably won't be of too much interest to the average holidaymaker who will be able to enjoy their own further along the coast. However, the beaches which are closer to the city get very busy at weekends but are fairly quiet during weekdays.
Malaga has several open spaces that have been planted offering shade with the palms and colour from the bedding plants and other Mediterranean species that survive the intense summer Spanish heat.
