Activities and things to do
Estepona Golf
Estepona Golf Club is a family run course and suits admirably those who enjoy unspoilt countryside, fresh air and the rugged vegetation of eucalyptus, palms placed around the course. It is hilly with a scattering of water and tree obstacles and narrow interesting fairways adapted to the terrain. The first 9 holes involve three lakes with level terrain and don’t prove too difficult. The last 9 are a little complicated taking in more hilly terrain while the water obstacles are confined to the heart of the course providing the player with a real challenge at the 6th, 10th and llth holes. Address: Paraje Arroyo Vaquero, 29680 Estepona, Malaga Tel: 95 211 30 81 Fax: 95 211 30 80 Website: For golf bookings - Email: Description: 18 holes, 6001 meters, Par 72 Green Fees: 51 euros Location: East of Estepona on the N340 or A7 toll road, then take MA557 inland and follow signs
Selwo Nature Reserve
Selwo is the coast’s top attraction and is home to over 2000 animals from 5 continents living in semi liberty and in their own recreated environment. Explored on foot and by all-terrain trucks, you can cross a wooden bridge and explore the separate routes where different species live in harmony. The Valley route to see lions and tigers, or the Sabana route for rhinoceros, ostrich, elephants, antelopes and zebras. A wonderful day out – so wear strong shoes, find your camera and enjoy.
Reach the picturesque village of Benahavis by taking the N340 west of San Pedro and then the MA547 inland and follow the lush valley inland for about 5 miles. Best to park at the entrance and stroll in to explore this fascinating village which is known for its gastronomy. Foreign residents almost outnumber locals here where the streets are narrow and quaint and you will find interesting shops, small plazas and fountains and most notably restaurant after restaurant. Visit La Aldea, which is a village within the village containing antique, décor and handicraft shops.
Parque Acuatico Mijas
One of the most popular water parks on the coast is the Mijas Aquapark where the Adventure River ride, a 300ft winding raft slide awaits you.

Try surfing the wave pool or the huge kamikaze slide, bathe in the clear blue waters of the lake, or enjoy the twists and turns while speeding through the labyrinth slide to the pool at the bottom.

For young children and tiny tots Aqualandia has two water playgrounds and a shallow activity pool. All this set in lush gardens with a variety of sports facilities, great restaurants, picnic and bbq areas.

Gibraltar has a fascinating history and probably a colourful future – who knows! The border with Spain was shut for 13 years from 1969, during and after the death of the dictator, General Franco, with Spain pursuing her claim to the Rock. Nevertheless, it is a welcoming destination with a mix of Arabic, Spanish and British influences with plenty of history and sights to see. Don’t miss the Great Seige Tunnels built in 1782, the views from the cable car and the endearing colony of apes that will steal your wallet with a swish of their tail. With dolphin trips and good duty free shopping, take your passport and enjoy.
