Sporting Activities In Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca occupies 170 miles of Spain's east coast running from Valencia in the north to La Manga in the south. All the resorts along this coastal stretch have plenty to offer. There are excellent facilities for watersports and it has the perfect temperature for them all.
Diving The Costa Blanca has been discovered by more and more divers in recent years attracted by the unspoiled underwater locations which has led to several commercial diving centres opening. The underwater life offers a wide variety of different species like moray eels, barracuda, rays, conger and scorpion fish, dolphins and sunfish can also be seen here at various times of the year. You can find underwater caves and caverns and explore recent but surprising wrecks. Multi-lingual diving courses are offered at Les Basetes, just to the north of Calpe.
Fishing The rivers and dams on the Costa Blanca offer excellent fishing with good stocks of Carp in the main reservoirs of Guadalest and Amadorio, These lakes also hold some very large Catfish and smaller predatory Black Bass which can be caught using spinners. Both lakes are less then 30 mins drive from Javea and Moraira.
When sea fishing you can expect to catch sea bream, bass and grey mullet and mackerel a couple of km off the coast. Tuna can be caught during the autumn and winter season. Fishing charters are available from all of the main ports on the coast.

A special angling license obtainable from branches of Caja/Caixa Rural Bank is required for fishing in reservoirs, rivers and estuaries of the Costa Blanca. There are both public and private waters on the Costa Blanca in Spain and you will need an additional permit to fish in some of them.
Sailing and Windsurfing Catamarans and sailboards are available to hire from Les Basetes Nautical Club (which is one kilometre from Calpe). If you like windsurfing and dinghy sailing the summer winds are mostly thermals which peak in the late afternoon and die away completely in the evening. The thermals off Moraira, Javea and Calpe beaches average force 2.5 and rarely exceed force 4. There are also windsurfing schools in Calpe and Javea. Calpe Yacht Club has dinghies for hire.
Tennis The good climate and the long hours of sunshine mean Tennis is undoubtedly one of the most popular kinds of sports on the Costa Blanca with a wide selection of clubs along the coast.
