Holiday Villas in the Resort of Las Americas

There are many distinct areas to Playa de las Americas making it a great family choice, with everything you need for an enjoyable beach holiday. For teenagers, Playa de las Americas is a lively, cosmopolitan resort with fantastic facilities and vibrant nightlife, with a lot of the action concentrated in a very small area known as Veronicas Strip. By day, there is a huge array of water sports to try. If you want a bit of sophistication, the Mare Nostrum complex is filled with international restaurants and stylish cocktail bars. Or there's the Magma Centre if you fancy a touch of Las Vegas, with top international entertainers and casinos. If retail therapy is your thing, you can go from top notch shopping complexes selling designer clothes, perfume and jewellery to the big sprawling weekly market in nearby Los Cristianos. For small children there are wonderful waterparks such as Aqualand is well worth a visit, with its many pools, slides and even dolphin shows. Then there are zoos, mini golf, nature reserves and all the excitement of the beach.

Your Villa Plus villa would be slightly out of town, so that you could enjoy the best of all worlds on offer, with something for every generation to write home about.

Exploring Las Americas On Villa Holidays
Las Americas

Playa de las Americas is a far cry from a classic traditional Spanish fishing village, and the food on offer is as international as you can get. The all-day British breakfast is alive and well here, alongside Chinese, Indian and Italian fare. Spanish cuisine may be a minority interest in many parts of town, but the Torviscas area in the west of the resort is the place to try some authentic Canarian food, such as paella, bean stew, tapas and garlicky mojo potatoes. Mojo sauce can be very spicy as it’s made with red chilli peppers, so beware! If you want to push the boat out one night, or have something to celebrate, try top rated restaurants such as 'Molino Blanco' or 'Folias', which cater for every taste.

Today Playa de las Americas a world-class resort, known for being fun and fashionable, with a lively night scene. You’ll need your designer sun specs just to cope with all the dazzling neon light in downtown Playa de las Americas on a Saturday night, in July. Cocktails, clubs and karaoke are the order of the day – or rather night. Holidaymakers flock to the square mile of Veronicas strip, the Starco Centre and the Patch for their hedonistic appeal. It’s all nightclubs, cabaret bars, live music venues, shops and restaurants.

By way of complete contrast, drive for half an hour to see natural beauty amongst the wildflowers of the Teide National Park, home to Pico del Teide, one of the world’s biggest volcanoes. This is Spain's highest mountain topped by a vast volcanic crater. You can cheat and take the cable car to get to its 3,718 metre high peak or do it the hard way walking up along the trails. Either way you will be rewarded by incredible views of the island.

Your villa in Playa de las Americas is the ideal base from which to explore the island. You could start with La Laguna, Tenerife's second most important city and former capital of the island until 1723. The city is full of interesting buildings including San Fernando University and the Bishop's Palace as well 17th and 18th century houses with brightly-coloured facades, elegant churches and an impressive cathedral. The city is surrounded by the luscious countryside of the Aguere Valley, just inland from Santa Cruz.

If you like dramatic mountain scenery you could visit Masca, a small picturesque village with a total population of around a hundred people. Or you could check out mysterious Piramides de Guimar, a group of six stepped pyramids on the east coast of the island. No one knows for sure how or why they are there. It is also worth spending a day in the capital Santa Cruz which is less than an hour away and has good shops, a spectacular new opera house on its waterfront and some great cafes and restaurants.
