Villas in La Vegueta

Located in the countryside between Tiagua and Mancha Blanca, La Vegueta is a small, traditional Spanish village. If you’re looking to stay active there are a number of walking and cycling paths nearby, including the popular El Cuervo Volcano route. The nearby town of Tinajo is 10 minutes’ drive away, where you will find a selection of local shops and traditional restaurants. And you’ll be in a great spot to explore the rest of the island, with the famous Timanfaya National Park and the island's capital, Arrecife, both just 25 minutes' away.

Exploring La Vegueta on Villa Holidays

There is one small mini market in the village of La Vagueta. The village of Tiagua, 5 minutes’ drive away, has a slightly bigger mini market but for a greater choice head to Tinajo for a few more shops.. There is a local farmers’ market held every Sunday morning in the nearby village of Mancha Blanca, 5 minutes’ drive away, perfect for picking up some local produce for a BBQ at the villa. There are also some bodegas where you can purchase locally produced wine. You’ll find the largest selection of shops in Puerto del Carmen Old Town, with many small independent shops as well as the Biosfera Shopping Centre.

You’ll find some local Spanish and Tapas restaurants in Tianjo, perfect for sampling the traditional delicacies. For a greater choice head to Puerto del Carmen, where you’ll discover a plethora of restaurants serving all different types of cuisines sure to suit all taste buds. In the island's capital, Arrecife, you'll find an authentic atmosphere with traditional Spanish restaurants and Tapas bars.

The nearest beach is Playa Famara, an unspoilt cove popular for surfing and kite surfing, just 15 minutes’ drive away. The village of La Santa, on the west coast, has a mainly rocky coastal area with a couple of man-made beaches. There is a local surf school in the village for you to practise your skills.

Playa Honda Beach is 20 minutes’ drive in the opposite direction and is lined with tapas bars along the promenade. Alternatively, the sandy Playa Grande Beach in Puerto del Carmen is great for families with calm waters, life guards and sunbeds available for hire.

There are 2 waterparks which make for a great day out for all ages, Aquapark in Costa Teguise and Aqualava in Playa Blanca, both of which can be reached within 30 minutes.

Puerto del Carmen, has plenty to keep everyone busy. Here you’ll find Rancho Texas, an animal and splash park by day which turns in to a Western themed BBQ twice a week, filled with line dancing! There’s also crazy golf, go-karting and watersports in in the resort.

There are a number of trekking path ways within easy reach of La Vegueta, perfect for those looking to stay active. The El Cuervo Volcano is just 10 minutes’ drive from the village, where you can join the popular route around the volcano and admire the spectacular scenery. Alternatively, the Timanfaya National Park is just a 25 minute drive away, where you can take a journey through the luna route passing some of the largest volcanic craters.

The nearby Mancha Blanca village is home to the Fiesta de los Dolores, a festival held every September. Local residents will dress in traditional costume and walk to the Los Dolores church, situated in the centre of the village. The streets are filled with parades, music and dancing, and is a wonderful, authentic experience.

In nearby Teguise, 20 minutes' away, you'll find a couple of interesting museums including the Cesar Manrique Foundation, which he designed himself when he first moved back from New York. This amazing building is open to the public and has an art-gallery of Manrique’s work and his private collection of work by other Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro.
