Location features

Local markets and shopping

The Acua Water Park is just a 10 minute walk from the villa and is home to a local market held on Tuesdays and Fridays. On Corralejo's main street, you'll have a range of shops including clothes and souvenir outlets. There are also some smaller boutiques with traditional goods and crafts on offer. There's a supermarket just a few minutes' drive from the villa, perfect for stocking up on essentials.

Bars and restaurants

If you're after some Canarian style tapas, try Corralejo harbour where you'll find a selection of traditional restaurants and cafes. This area becomes quite lively during the evening, with many bars and clubs dotted around. The main street has a large variety of options including Indian, Chinese and classic British dishes, so rest assured there's something to suit all tastes.

Fuerteventura is full of picture postcard beaches, offering fine white sand and clear blue water. The Corralejo region has some exceptional options including Waikiki, the closest beach to the villa, a short drive or 20 minute walk away. Beach bars and a few restaurants dot the wide shoreline and activities such as kite surfing are popular here. Another excellent option for watersports is Grandes Playas, a few minutes' further by car. This large stretch of coastline is often awash with parasailers and kite surfers.

Family fun

A 10 minute walk away is the Acua Waterpark (open April to October) with plenty of waterslides, a wave machine, plus a jacuzzi. It also has a bowling alley and a crazy golf course to keep kids entertained. Just a few minutes further on foot is Parque Europa, a small fun park with children's rides and inflatables.

Places of interest

Don't miss the incredible sand dunes that form the Parque Natural de Corralejo. These Sahara like, shifting sand dunes are one of the most visited attractions in Fuerteventura. Take a 10 minute drive and park up before exploring the spectacle on foot. It's possible to walk over the dunes which give you wonderful views over the island. For a change of pace, you could visit one of the neighbouring islands such as Lobos or Lanzarote.

Mirador de Lobos is a small, pitch and putt course a 5 minute drive away. For a more established course, try Fuerteventura Golf. This 18 hole course was the first on the island and is located 45 minutes' drive south.

Other activities

Culture vultures may like to travel to Antigua, approximately 45 minutes away by car. It's one of the oldest villages on the island and has interesting architecture such as the pretty white windmill and a charming, traditional church open to visitors. There's also a museum that tells you all about the famous local goat's cheese known as Majorera.

Activities and things to do
Antigua Village
Built in the 18th century, Antigua is one of the oldest villages on the island.
The present population of Antigua is around 3000 and the total area is 250

The picturesque church of Cruz de los Caldos, that dominates the town, was built in 1785 and stands amongst well kept trees and shrubbery. The church is usually open to the general public in the mornings and sometimes during the afternoons. Next to the church is the beautiful village square which is filled with flowers all year round.

Antigua also has a fully restored windmill which is now a cultural centre and a popular tourist attraction. Inside is a craft shop selling local handicraft and art.

Despite being a fairly sleepy village, Antigua has a few social facilities for the local people such as a school, library, post office and a clinic. The church hall is used for a general meeting point.

Fuerteventura's former capital Betancuria lies in a picturesque valley next to a dried up stream which flowed up until the 16th century. Founded in 1405 by the Norman conqueror Jean de Bethencourt (hence the name), Betancuria has a great deal of history behind it. The reason for its location was to protect the capital from pirate attacks, although in 1593 the pirate Jaban penetrated the village and reduced everything, including the Santa Maria church, to a pile of rubble and ash. The church was not rebuilt until 1691.

Betancuria was capital for quite some time until the local people started moving away from the town due to lack of arable land. In 1834, Betancuria bowed down and handed the honor over to La Oliva (who then handed over to Puerto de Cabras known today as Puerto Del Rosario).

The Centro Insular de Artesania, next to the museum, documents traditional arts and crafts - if you want to see some local handicraft this is the place to come! Make a visit to the Casa Santa Maria where you can watch local artists at work and even purchase some of the hand made products from the quaint local shop.

Acua Waterpark
Acua Waterpark (formally known as Baku Park) in Corralejo offers a variety of water slides and tubes, water jets and fountains, a selection of pools and lakes both shallow and deep, a wave machine, a jacuzzi, water rings, floats and water games. There is also a crazy golf course and bowling alley.

The park is open throughout the summer season from April to October each year and is a great family day out!
Corralejo Golf Course
The Corralejo Golf Course was officially opened on the 8th June 2009. This 9-hole course is set on high ground towards the outskirts of Corralejo town, next to the Bahia Azul resort villas and ‘Mirador de Lobos Golf’.

There are plenty of challenges to be encountered over its 673 metres, even for the more accomplished golfer, with three holes affected by water and others require very accurate hitting from tee to green.

With views both to the sea and the dunes of the Parque Natural, and boasting its own fresh-water lake, this well-maintained course is designed to provide pleasure for both the novice and seasoned player alike. The perfect place to spend a couple of hours on a round of golf, or just to become familiar with the game and meet new friends.
