Corralejo delivers sunshine all year round with temperatures in July, August and September reaching 28-34 Celcius. You will have no trouble finding the basics such as postcards, bottled water, sun cream or an inflatable Mickey Mouse down on the sea front. The old town is the place to look for small independent shops selling local crafts, leather and jewellery, and there are excellent local markets. The main everyday shops such as supermarkets are in the newer part of town, but for serious retail therapy try the two big shopping centres, El Campanario and Las Palmeras.
You have a great choice of magnificent beaches, but the town centre beach is ideal for small children, as the fine white sands shelve gently into clear, clean, calm waters, ideal for paddling while you enjoy your place in the sun. There are plenty of sun loungers, parasols, gift shops and beach bars. For a day out, you can also take a boat trip to Lanzarote or Lobos.
Corralejo is a great place for all kinds of live music, mainly in the bars and clubs on the Avenida del Generalissimo Franco, which takes you from the town square to the harbour. You might also find karaoke and cabaret, discos and quizzes. There are over a hundred restaurants in the town, so whatever kind of food you fancy, you can probably find it. If you love fresh seafood, however, restaurants around the harbour are hard to beat.
There have been some great archaeological finds in the Corralejo area and a day trip to the former capital of the island, Betancuria will help you get to grips with the ancient history of the island. Here there is an Archaeology Museum with many interesting archaeological finds and exhibits including old farming implements.
