Located only 20 minutes’ drive from the capital of Mahon, the relaxed seaside resort of Punta Prima is popular with families and couples alike. Offering great views of the Isle Del Aire just off the coast, the wide beach has soft sand and shallow waters. A promenade runs alongside the sandy shores, with some great restaurants overlooking the sea. Walkers can easily join the Cami des Cavalls bridle path, which circumnavigates the whole island and offers spectacular scenery.
There are 3 mini markets in the resort providing an ample selection of products for your holiday and there is larger supermarket located on the outskirts of San Luis, 10 minutes drive away. Punta Prima is home to a weekly craft market in the summer months – ideal for picking up some souvenirs to take home. You’ll also find many boutiques and shops lining the cobbled streets.
Running parallel to the beach is a promenade lined with restaurants and bars, many of which offer lovely sea views. There is plenty of fresh seafood and traditional Spanish cuisine available, as well as international options such as pizzas or steaks.
The beautiful Punta Prima beach has a wide stretch of fine white sand and wonderful views of the Isle Del Aire lighthouse, a small island just out to sea. This beach is great for families, with a lifeguard on duty in the high season and a watersports centre offering kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. If you're feeling active, the pretty cove of Alcaufar is a rewarding 40 minute walk away along the coastal path, offering stunning sea views.
The Splash waterpark is just outside of Punta Prima, a great way to cool down and keep the whole family entertained. You’ll find lazy rivers, waterslides and a wonderful pirate ship play area for the younger children.
10 minutes’ drive from Punta Prima is the charming fishing village of Binibeca Vell, with an authentic Spanish feel. Wander the cobbled streets or head to the ice cream parlour for an afternoon treat. Be sure to visit Mahon, the island’s capital, which is home to the world’s second deepest natural harbour. Here you can arrange a glass-bottomed boat trip or dine in one of the many restaurants overlooking the impressive yachts. There are also some great chic boutiques if you feel like a spot of retail therapy.
If you’re feeling active, the Cami des Cavalls trail is very popular with walkers and is a fantastic way to explore Menorca’s coastline and countryside. This bridle path circumnavigates the whole island, but can be broken down into more manageable chunks. There is an entrance to the trail at the end of the beachside promenade, so why not pack a picnic and make a day of it?
