Es Castell is a picturesque resort situated on Menorca's South East coast. There is a weekly market which takes place in the historic town of Es Castell. You’ll find traditional trinkets, souvenirs, clothes, fresh fruit, vegetables and meats. Something for everyone! There are mini markets dotted around the resort, so you’ll be sure to stock up on your essentials. The city of Mahon is a 10 minute drive away renowned for a shopper’s paradise, with chic boutiques, artisan craft shops and a daily food market set in the cloisters of an old church.
The town of Es Castell has a stunning harbourside, Cales Fonts, where fishing boats moor up and the dining establishments overlook the water offering a striking setting for an evening meal. Choose between pizza, meat dishes, paellas and freshly caught fish. Kick off your evenings at a waterside bar and try the a pomada (locally made gin with lemonade) or a sangria whilst watching the sunset from this idyllic inlet. Move on to the buzzing main square where you’ll find plenty of tapas bars as well as local restaurants to sample some traditional Spanish cuisine. Why not sit amongst the locals and soak up the atmosphere?
Es Castel has plenty of bathing platforms lined with sunbeds and parasols for hire so you can enjoy your days soaking up that sunshine and admiring those stunning sea views. Better yet, drive south for 15 minutes to Punta Prima beach, with long stretches of beautiful white sand. It a great place for paddling, snorkelling, kayaking not to mention swimming in crystal clear waters.
For day out with the family, the place to go is Splash waterpark, situated 20 minutes’ away by car. With waves, slides, whirlpools, lazy river and thrilling water shoots there is something for everyone! The popular Lloc de Menorca Zoo, close to Mahon is a petting zoo where you can feed the goats and handle a snake if you dare is also a great fun day out.
Es Castell has a rich history, the town hall in the main square used to house British troops and has now been transformed to a military museum. Explore at your leisure and learn about the fascinating history of the town. It is only 1 hour by car from Es Castell in the east to Ciutadella, the old capital, in the west. Between the 2 towns there are many things to do from visiting Monte Toro, the islands highest point, to stopping off for a swim at Cala Galdana, the island's most photographed beach. Or visit Fornells, a scenic fishing port with fabulous seafood restaurants.
