Location features

Local markets and shopping

It's a pleasant 10 minute walk into the centre of the resort which has a few good mini market for daily essentials, as well as a choice of souvenir shops. During the summer, there's also an occasional evening craft market.

Bars and restaurants

Calan Porter has an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars catering for all tastes, from steak houses and pizzerias to the more traditional paella and tapas venues. The nearby Caves of Xoroi has a lively bar perched right on the edge of the cliff which has wonderful views of the sunset at night.

The street leading to the beach runs along the edge of the clifftop, with magnificent views of the sea and bay below. The beach has a small promenade along the side with several cafes where you can take a break from the heat and stop for lunch. It takes around 20 minutes to reach the pedestrian entrance to the beach, which has a flight of 180 stone steps down to the seafront. You can also access the beach by car, down a short but steep hill, to the parking area at the back of the sand.

Family fun

The shallow beach is the highlight of the resort, which has a very small children's play area and pedaloes can be hired during the summer. Also in the summer months, a small activity park with bouncy castles, trampolines and mini go-karts opens in the centre. Splash! Water Park is located on the South East Coast of the island, around 30 minutes' drive away. Children will also love the popular Lloc de Menorca Zoo, 20 minutes away by car.

The zoo also has a small splash pool, 2 museums, a picnic area, snack bar and a gift shop.
Monte Toro
El Toro, at 360 metres above sea level, is the highest peak on Menorca. In the centre of the island it towers above the small town of Es Mercadal. Take the time to drive up the steep 3.2km climb to the summit and see the whole of the island spread out beneath you. There are sea views on all four sides and, on a clear day, the view stretches to the north coast of Mallorca.
The mountain is crowned by a convent which has become an important centre of pilgrimage and the neat vegetable and herb gardens beneath the terraces are still tended to by the community of nuns who live there. Visit the tiny chapel or have lunch in the rustic café and browse around the shop, packed with souvenirs and local produce.
Golf Son Parc
There is only one golf course on the island, set amongst the pine trees in Son Parc, on the North coast. It has recently been extended from 9 holes to 18 and is open 365 days per year.
There is an 18 bay floodlit driving range with the latest technology - Swingcam.
Junior golfers are welcome if accompanied by an adult and the golf shop stocks equipment for purchase or hire for children of 5 years upwards.
The dress code is lenient - shorts, t-shirts and trainers are acceptable but NOT sleeveless vests, swimwear, flipflops etc.

If golf plays an important part of your holiday then it is wise to book in advance.
