Villa Description

Swimming pool, BBQ area and outside space

The private kidney-shaped swimming pool is surrounded by traditional terracotta tiling with plenty of space to relax. There is a brick BBQ to the side of the terrace and the exterior table and chairs is shaded from the sun providing an ideal setting for a continental breakfast, tapas lunch or alfresco evening meal.

Entrance

A traditional Menorcan, olive wood gate opens onto the driveway. The patio doors under the covered terrace open straight into the lounge.

Living space

The living area is decorated in neutral colours, with a flat screen TV and patio doors at one end opening onto the pool terrace, allowing plenty of natural light into the villa. There is a solid wood dining table at the rear of the room, adjacent to the kitchen which is fully equipped with all mod cons and also has a door onto the garden.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

An archway from the lounge opens into a small hallway where you will find 1 double bedroom with an en suite bathroom, and 2 twin bedrooms sharing a separate shower room. One of the twin bedrooms has 2 small single beds suitable for children up to the age of 11.

Villa Location

Calan Porter has a variety of bars and restaurants all within easy reach from the villa on foot, appealing to both family and friends alike. The villas are all built around the centre making it easy to find your way around, up above the beautiful sandy bay. The famous Caves of Xoroi are also within a short walk and are well worth a visit during your stay.

Local markets and shopping

This resort is ideally suited to self-catering holidays. In addition to several well stocked supermarkets, most of which will deliver groceries to your villa, there are also a couple of souvenir shops. A weekly night market offers souvenirs and trinkets, and adds to the local atmosphere.

Bars and restaurants

Calan Porter has a wide selection of bars and restaurants to choose from. The Caves of Xoroi also transform into a lively disco at night where you can relax, enjoy a drink and watch the sun set over the sea.

Beaches

The beautiful sandy bay is protected on both sides by steep cliffs and the beach shelves gently into the sea. There's a small promenade by the sand with a souvenir shop and a couple of local bars. The beach can be accessed on foot by a large flight of steps, or down a long, steep road leading to the car park at the rear of the beach. For anyone not wanting to hire a car, taxis are available.

Family fun

A couple of the resort restaurants offer weekly entertainment in the form of tribute bands. There are several play areas for children, some attached to the local restaurants. There is also a soft play area in the centre of the resort with a mini go kart track for children. Further afield, a choice of waterparks on either side of the island as well as Lloc de Menorca Zoo can all be accessed easily by car.

Places of interest

One thing Calan Porter is known for are the Caves of Xoroi, a natural cave hollowed out of the cliff face at the entrance to the bay, accessed by a series of steps winding down the cliff. During the day refreshments can be bought at the entrance to the caves and the views from the seating area are simply stunning. By night the caves transform into a popular disco and bar. Further afield, for anyone who does hire a car, visit the islands' highest point Monte Toro. There is a gift shop and café at the top where you can enjoy a bite to eat admiring the spectacular panoramic views over the whole island!

Golf

The islands' only golf course is located in Son Parc, on the North coast, around 30 minutes' drive from Calan Porter.

Other activities

Menorca has lots of different activities going on. The recently renovated bridle path along the coast is a delight for those who enjoy fresh sea air and don't mind walking. For anyone wanting something more active, many of the resorts offer water sports and other sporting facilities, or for a more authentic taste of Menorca, some of the local resorts put on horse shows - well worth a visit!

Caves of Xoroi, Calan Porter

The Caves of Xoroi in Calan Porter are not to be missed and boast a fantastic panoramic view out to sea! By day, the caves are a popular tourist attraction with a cafe and gift shop. By night the caves transform into a lively disco with a bar and occassionally live music, where you can enjoy an evening cocktail as you watch the sun set over the sea.

Watersports

Menorca is definitely the place to be for anyone wanting to experience watersports on their villa holiday! Professional centres with modern teaching techniques and equipment to hire make it all so easy, even for beginners. Menorca's prevalent winds and summers breezes provide perfect conditions for windsurfing or sailing and diving is also very popular with a great deal of sea life and underwaters caves to be explored!|Some of the main beach resorts have windsurf boards and small sailing dinghys but Fornells, on the North coast of the island, in particular, is home to some of the best windsurfing and sailing facilities in Europe.

Lloc de Menorca Zoo

Lloc de Menorca Zoo, located on the main road from Mahon to Alaior, is sure to be a hit with the kids! The zoo has a range of creatures from farm animals to more exotic zoo animals and children will also be able to pet some of the farm animals.

The zoo also has a small splash pool, 2 museums, a picnic area, snack bar and a gift shop.

Pony/donkey trekking

All the riding schools have facilities for children and the equestrian shows attract locals and visitors alike from all over the island.

A particularly popular horse riding centre is Menorca Horse Riding in Mahon where children can have riding lessons or go trekking through woods or along the beaches. The centre caters for all ages, from beginners to experts.

Splash Waterpark

Splash Waterpark is the newest of the islands 3 parks and can be found in Biniancolla, halfway between Binibeca and Punta Prima on the East coast of the island.
