With a beautiful setting on the south coast of the island, only 20 minutes’ drive from the airport, Calan Porter is a fantastic base for your villa holiday. The stunning sandy beach is protected by the cliffs creating a calm cove ideal for families, plus some excellent photo opportunities. There are a good choice of dining venues and a selection of shops scattered around the resort, meaning many of our villas do not require a hire car. The Caves of Xoroi are close by with spectacular sunset views, while the island’s capital, Mahon, is just a short bus ride away.
You’ll find a small selection of souvenir shops plus a weekly craft market during the peak summer months. For your daily essentials there are a few mini markets dotted throughout the resort, while a larger supermarket is a short drive or taxi ride away. For even greater shopping opportunities, head to the bustling capital of Mahon.
Calan Porter has a good variety of places to eat and drink serving both local and international dishes, as well as various cocktail bars where you can relax and watch the sun go down. There are also several cafes along the promenade by the beach where you can take a break from the sun and enjoy a cool drink or a spot of lunch. Don’t miss the famous Caves of Xoroi! Tourist attraction by day, the caves transform at night into a lively disco with a bar on the cliffside where you can sit and enjoy a drink or two as the sun sets over the sea.
Calan Porter is also only a short drive from the island’s capital, Mahon, where you can relax at any one of its stylish harbourside restaurants, or venture into the town for cafes, bakeries and ice cream parlours.
Calan Porter has a fantastic sandy cove lined by a short promenade with a gift shop and a choice of cafes overlooking the sand. The beach is accessed either on foot down a flight of 180 steps or by car down a steep, short hill to a parking area at the back of the sand. There are sunbeds and parasols for hire during the high season, as well as a selection of water sports in the summer.
Activities in Calan Porter tend to focus around the beach, with soft golden sand and shallow water ideal for children. Also, within the resort you’ll find a small children’s play area which has trampolines and bouncy castles during the peak summer months. Other popular family activities, such as the nearest waterpark or Lloc de Menorca Zoo, are easily accessible within a short drive
If you do decide to hire a car and explore, Calan Porter is conveniently located only 20 minutes’ drive from Mahon. The island’s capital makes a great day trip, with a huge choice of places to eat, drink and shop, as well as the gin factory and museum. The town is most widely known for its spectacular natural harbour, lined with a never-ending choice of fashionable restaurants overlooking luxury yachts and cruise liners. Here you can arrange glass-bottomed boat trips – great fun for all the family.
The traditional market town of Alaior is also worth a visit and the birthplace of Menorca’s cheese. Wander the cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses, browse the weekly market or sample some of the famous cheese!
