This section of coastline is home to one of Menorca's finest sandy beaches with calm shallow waters and picturesque cliffs either side. The mid island setting of Cala Galdana means it is a great base for exploring the rest of Menorca. Villa Olivia, Alexia, Josefa, Marco, Julietta, Poppy, Ethan, Nicolas and Marita are neighbouring Villa Erik, perfect for larger groups wanting separate accommodation.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Cala Galdana has a few small shops, ideal for topping up on holiday amenities. Larger supermarkets can be found a short drive outside of the resort, approximately 15 minutes' drive away. Cala Galdana has a mini market, convenient for your daily essentials. In the nearby town of Ferreries there is also a weekly night craft market in the high season with live music. For some serious retail therapy, the island's old capital, Ciutadella, is 20 minutes' drive away.

Bars and restaurants

There are plenty of restaurants in Cala Galdana ranging from beach and tapas bars offering freshly caught seafood and paellas. Most eateries are located along the river bank and on the beach front - what a great setting to admire the sun set with a delicious meal.

Menorca's most photographed beach, Cala Galdana, is just 10 minutes' walk from Villa Erik. This Blue Flag beach is a family favourite with soft sand and calm, shallow waters. Head south to the sheltered bay of Cala Mitjana with turquoise waters and white sand, or alternatively, head north to Macarella Beach, a beautiful pristine cove.

Family fun

Children will love the small selection of waterslides within Cala Galdana. For more excitement visit one of the three waterparks dotted around the island. Half an hour's drive away is Lloc de Menorca Zoo, full of interesting and exotic animals.

Places of interest

Cala Galdana Beach has a viewpoint on one side of the bay offering a spectacular panoramic view across the resort and bay. 40 minutes' drive away is the islands capital, Mahon. Here you can organise boats trips from the pretty, natural harbour, and the main town has a wonderful choice of shops and bars.

The only golf course on the island is in the resort of Son Parc on the north coast, approximately a 30 minute drive away

Other activities

Menorca has a fabulous walking and cycling route called the Cami de Cavalls, an old bridle path which circumnavigates the whole of the island. This coastal walk showcases some of the island's most stunning scenery. Castillo Menorca, along the main road towards road towards Alaior, also makes for a great day out with an adventure and waterpark, go-karting track and large retail outlet with a restaurant, 15 minutes' drive away.

Activities and things to do
Lloc de Menorca Zoo
Lloc de Menorca Zoo, located on the main road from Mahon to Alaior, is sure to be a hit with the kids! The zoo has a range of creatures from farm animals to more exotic zoo animals and children will also be able to pet some of the farm animals.

The zoo also has a small splash pool, 2 museums, a picnic area, snack bar and a gift shop.
Horse Shows
There are many horse and pony riding centres around the island as well as a choice of spectacular equestrian shows which have now become a regular haunt for many of the islands' visitors.

The most popular horse show on the island is the Somni at the Son Martorellet Horse Farm, on the road from Ferreries to Cala Galdana. The farm is dedicated to the breeding, care and training of the Menorcan breed horse and puts on regular performances and dressage displays. Visitors will also be able to look around the farm and stables, and facilities include a gift shop, a choice of places to eat and a childrens play area.

Or why not venture to Calan Blanes or Sant Luis which both still practise the 200 year old traditional of trotting races? The jockey sits on a cart pulled by a horse and tries to maintain the trot - place your bets on the race!
Castillo Menorca
Castillo Menorca, located on the main road between Ferreries and Cuitadella, has an adults pool with a water slide and a childrens pool, as well as mini golf, trampolines, a childrens play area, a shopping complex selling leather goods, jewellery, ceramics and gifts, a snack bar and a fantastic go-karting track! WiFi is also available.

In addition to the above, several resorts also have water slides or splash pools, the largest being in Son Bou. Smaller slides for younger children can be found in Cala Galdana and Cala Blanca.

Golf Son Parc
There is only one golf course on the island, set amongst the pine trees in Son Parc, on the North coast. It has recently been extended from 9 holes to 18 and is open 365 days per year.
There is an 18 bay floodlit driving range with the latest technology - Swingcam.
Junior golfers are welcome if accompanied by an adult and the golf shop stocks equipment for purchase or hire for children of 5 years upwards.
The dress code is lenient - shorts, t-shirts and trainers are acceptable but NOT sleeveless vests, swimwear, flipflops etc.

If golf plays an important part of your holiday then it is wise to book in advance.
Monte Toro
El Toro, at 360 metres above sea level, is the highest peak on Menorca. In the centre of the island it towers above the small town of Es Mercadal. Take the time to drive up the steep 3.2km climb to the summit and see the whole of the island spread out beneath you. There are sea views on all four sides and, on a clear day, the view stretches to the north coast of Mallorca.
The mountain is crowned by a convent which has become an important centre of pilgrimage and the neat vegetable and herb gardens beneath the terraces are still tended to by the community of nuns who live there. Visit the tiny chapel or have lunch in the rustic café and browse around the shop, packed with souvenirs and local produce.
