Cala Blanca has a wonderful location on the West Coast of the island, just 10 minutes’ drive from the old capital of Ciutadella. Its position means that it has one of the best views of the sunset on the island, and the restaurants along the waterfront are the perfect place to sit, enjoy dinner and take in the wonderful views. The lovely sandy beach is the ideal place to spend the day, with a greater choice of venues to eat, drink and shop in the commercial centre.
Right in the middle of the resort is a commercial centre, which has a couple of small mini markets, as well as a choice of souvenir and beachwear shops. For a bigger shop, there are also a couple of larger supermarkets on the outskirts of town. The former capital, Ciutadella, is only 10 minutes away by car, and is home to a lively market as well as many chic boutiques and shops – perfect for a day of retail therapy!
The beach, on the far side of Cala Blanca, has a few good restaurants overlooking the sandy inlet below, but you’ll find most of the resort’s dining options are within the central commercial centre. A couple of the restaurants sit right on the waterfront, where you’ll have the best view of the sunset as you dine in the evening! The restaurants here are mainly authentic Spanish, serving traditional paella and tapas dishes, as well as fresh seafood. But you’ll also find Italian and Indian venues, as well as simple local bars with a friendly atmosphere and tasty snacking menus.
Cala Blanca’s sandy cove has a few good restaurants on either side, ideal for taking a break from the heat of the sun. During the summer, sunbeds and parasols are available to hire and there is also a selection of water sports on offer. The sea is clear and shallow, great for snorkelling.
Slightly further north, only a few minutes’ drive from the resort, are the 2 smaller coves of Cala Santandria and Sa Caleta – ideal if you prefer the seclusion of a more sheltered beach. Each has a couple of restaurants nearby where you can enjoy a light lunch.
Next to Cala Blanca Beach you’ll find an activity centre with a simple Spanish snack bar and ice cream parlour. There are also 2 large waterslides which, for a small fee, children can use as much as they like. The slides and bar overlook the sea and beachfront below. The complex sometimes has live music too!
There are 2 great waterparks within easy reach of Cala Blanca. In the neighbouring resort of Calan Bosch, 10 minutes' drive away, you'll find Aqua Rock as well as a go karting track - great fun for all the family! Alternatively, the Aqua Centre waterpark is located in Calan Blanes, just 20 minutes' drive away.
The former capital of Menorca, Ciutadella, is less than 5 kilometres from Cala Blanca, and is definitely worth visiting during your stay. The town has a never-ending choice of places to eat, drink and shop, including a lively weekly market. Plus, the harbourside restaurants here also have excellent sunset views. Just outside of Ciutadella is the impressive Lithica sandstone labyrinth and gardens which are the perfect activity for a cooler day, or during the evening when the sun is lower.
Monte Toro, the island's highest point, is just half an hours' drive from your villa. Drive up the winding roads to the very top, where you will be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views. Or, if you like walking, why not explore the Cami des Cavalls walking route? This old bridle path circumnavigates the island and offers dramatic coastline and countryside scenery.
