Calheta

Holiday Villas in Calheta Resort

Calheta is one of the most popular regions of Madeira, thanks in part to the fantastic weather it receives. It’s also a beautifully peaceful place in the heart of the Madeiran countryside. Split into 3 areas, our villas in Calheta are situated in Arco de Calheta and Estreito de Calheta, whilst Calheta Beach is just a short car ride away from both. Relax by your private pool or take a trip to the beach for a dip in the Atlantic Ocean.

Exploring Calheta Villa Holidays

In both Arco da Calheta and Estreito da Calheta there are various small mini markets where you'll be able to stock up on the necessities. At Calheta Beach you'll find a large supermarket, perfect for picking up all the ingredients you weren’t able to get at the mini markets. A larger selection of shops as well as the Mercardo dos Lavradores (Farmer’s Market) can be found in Funchal.

Across the small villages that make up Calheta, there are several fantastic local restaurants and bars.  Meanwhile, Calheta beach has a variety of restaurants to choose from, many with great views of the beach or marina. For a wonderful sundowner be sure to visit Pukiki, this tiki bar serves up delectable cocktails with incredible sunset views. There are some wonderful towns along the coast which also have a selection of delicious eateries, including Ribeira Brava and Camara de Lobos.

The man-made sandy beach at Calheta is popular with tourists and locals alike. With 2 beaches facing each other, the imported Moroccan sand shines golden against the glittering turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Down the coastline, a 15 minute drive away, is the pretty village of Ponta do Sol which has a pebble beach. In the north of the island is Seixal beach, the views from this black sand beach are of some of the most stunning landscape in Madeira.

If your private pool isn’t enough to keep the young ones entertained, then head to Funchal, a 40 to 45 minute drive from Calheta, for a plethora of exciting activities. There are various boat tours that leave from Funchal Harbour, including a pirate ship experience, heading out in search of dolphins and whales. A 40 minute drive from Calheta, in the northeast is the beautiful town of Porto Moniz, with an aquarium and beautiful volcanic swimming pools, it's a great family day out.

In Estreito da Calheta is the wonderful Casa das Mudas Art Centre, showcasing some of the finest contemporary art by artists from around the globe. Madeira is a hiker’s and walker’s paradise, with hundreds of incredible walks dotted across the island. Many of which follow a network of Levadas, a system of aqueducts that run the entire way round the island. If it's your first time, we highly recommend hiring a guide to show you the best routes and you how to navigate these beautiful walks safely.
