The charming town of Loule in the hills behind Almancil has an indoor market that is open every morning. If you want to cook at your villa, it's perfect for buying fresh fruit and vegetables. For designer labels and chic boutiques, try Vale do Lobo's famous Praca and Quinta do Lago's fashionable Plaza Buganvilia.
Vale do Lobo has a good selection of contemporary style cafes and restaurants in the fashionable area known as the Praca which is next to the beach. During the summer months, you can also enjoy live music in this area. Further afield is the international yacht marina of Vilamoura, with a range of international restaurants and bars which keep going late into the night. Almancil also has several excellent Portuguese restaurants which focus on traditional and international cuisine.
Vale do Lobo Beach is fringed with pinewoods and wooden thatched sunshades. You’ll also find plenty of sunbeds and parasols to hire, water sports, and beach bars. Alternatively, Praia do Garrao Beach, is sandy with calm waters as well as plenty of watersports available during the summer months and a variety of restaurants and beach bars. If you enjoy a cocktail at sunset, the beach bars on Vale do Garrao, Izzies, Marias and Julias have live music and a party atmosphere in summer.
If you like to stay active on holiday, Vale do Lobo has a tennis academy and plenty of courts to practice on. You’ll find mini golf course and horse riding centre in Vilamoura, 15 minutes' drive away.
Alternatively, the Aquashow waterpark is 15 minute drive away, with plenty of slides and flumes to keep the whole family entertained.
Older children and teenagers might appreciate the karting in Almancil 10 minute drive or Parque Aventura in Santa Eulalia, Albufeira, 30 minutes' drive away. It is a paintball centre plus tree top adventure course including zip wires, bridges, and ropes, the perfect way to have some friendly family competition!
Take time to visit the historic market town of Loule with tree lined plazas and medieval alleys, giving it a unique character and charm. This ancient town is packed with history including a 13th century castle and various Gothic churches as well as a Moorish inspired covered market.
Faro's historic old town and marina is only 25 minutes’ drive from Vale do Lobo. You can explore its cobbled streets and city walls before a relaxed lunch overlooking the marina. To delve a little deeper into the history perhaps visit the archaeological museum, the Cathedral and the Convent of Our Lady.
