Praia d’Oura is the Algarve’s top party resort famed for its pubs, clubs and bars that keep the everyone dancing until sunrise and the visitors coming back year after year. Praia d’Oura has another side though with a beautiful sandy beach in the centre of the resort which families love for its sheltered swimming. Throughout Praia d’Oura, you can find mini markets for stocking up on your day to day essentials or to buy snacks to take to the beach. When you want to BBQ at your villa, the municipal market between Praia d'Oura and Albufeira is open every morning except Sundays and sells fresh produce and fish. For those who prefer something more traditional there is a local market and souvenir shops in the old town of Albufeira.
There are 3 main areas of restaurants in Praia d’Oura. For a quiet dinner, try the seafood restaurants overlooking the beach and enjoy the views. If you want international options including Indian, Italian and fast food, the famous strip in the centre of the resort is the place to be. If you fancy a few cocktails or a night dancing, there are clubs and live music bars along the main strip which keep going until dawn. Or, North of the strip is the area of Montechoro which has more restaurants and cafes with a more local feel.
Praia d'Oura’s Blue Flag beach is at the end of the strip, a leisurely stroll downhill. It’s a lovely stretch of golden sand that slopes gently into the ocean making it perfect for swimming and watersports. You can also snorkel around the rocks at one end.
In nearby Albufeira, the Fishermen's Beach is flanked by cliffs and rock formations and overlooked by some good seafood restaurants. You can try a number of different watersports here.
The town’s other beach, Praia do Penaco, is smaller with a promenade, ideal for strolling with an ice cream and enjoying the ocean views.
The Algarve has great waterparks for a memorable day out. Try Slide and Splash or Aqualand, both within a 30 minute drive of Praia d’Oura.
Parque Aventura, in Santa Eulalia is great for teenagers and older children, just 5 minutes away by car. It’s a paintball centre and has various adventure courses through the trees made up of zip wires, bridges and ropes.
The popular Zoomarine theme park is also perfect for the whole family with hundreds of fascinating sea animals and fish and only 15 minutes’ drive from the resort.
Take a dolphin watching boat trip from nearby Albufeira Marina. You’ll explore the coastline and see some of the hidden caves and coves that the Algarve has in abundance.
Keen golfers will know the Algarve has plenty of championship courses to choose from. The closest is the Balaia Golf Course, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Praia d’Oura.
