Holiday Villas in Fort Sao Joao Resort

Fort Sao Joao is a small friendly resort tucked between the resorts of Praia d'Oura and Albufeira. A villa holiday here has the best of both worlds for family and couples. Fort Sao Joao has its own beach, a few bars and restaurants plus all the nightlife you could want on the doorstep in Praia d'Oura and daytime activities in Albufeira. Our villas are walking distance from the beach if you want to pop back for lunch or a dip in your private pool. When you are ready to explore further, try the famous Fishermen’s Beach which has a choice of watersports and beachside restaurants. If you are more of a night owl, get ready to party in the live music bars and nightclubs of Praia d’Oura.

Exploring Fort Sao Joao On Villa Holidays

Local markets and shopping

Fort Sao Joao has a supermarket a short stroll away for your daily essentials. For locally grown produce, visit the local market every Tuesday between Praia d'Oura and the old town of Albufeira. Alternatively, the municipal market on the outskirts of Albufeira takes places daily apart from Sunday. You can buy all your fresh produce and fish here, ideal for a BBQ at your villa. In the narrow streets of Albufeira, there are many handicraft shops should you want to buy some souvenirs or gifts.

Bars and restaurants

You’ll have plenty of bars and restaurants to suit most tastes and budgets within walking distance when you want a night off from cooking at your villa. You may prefer a traditional Portuguese restaurant overlooking the Fishermen’s Beach or Chinese, Italian and fast food on the Praia d’Oura strip. The old town of Albufeira has many restaurants to choose from along narrow cobbled streets while the contemporary marina is a great spot for a cocktail and some international cuisine. If you want to keep going after dinner, try the live music bars around the main square in Albufeira or the Praia d'Oura strip where you’ll also find a choice of nightclubs.

Beaches

Forte Sao Joao Beach is a short walk from our villas, with soft sand and calm waters surrounded by dramatic cliff faces. You’ll find sunbeds and parasols to hire and a choice of beach bars when you want some shade. The Praia d'Oura beach is a long golden sandy stretch with plenty of water sports on offer plus a choice of beachside cafes and restaurants. Nearby Albufeira has the famous Fishermen’s Beach, a beautiful and expansive sandy cove, flanked by weather worn rock formations. It’s great for watersports and sheltered for swimming.

Family fun

Albufeira Marina has plenty of activities to try from dolphin watching to paragliding and kayaking. You’ll also find watersports on Fishermen’s Beach in Albufeira. For a fun day out, Aqualand is a popular waterpark with plenty of slides and pool to suit all ages and only 25 minutes’ drive from the resort. For older children and teenagers looking for some high adrenaline action, take a 10 minute drive to Parque Aventura in nearby Santa Eulalia for a day of paintball and tree top adventure courses.

Places of Interest

For a day away from the beach, take a jeep safari or hire a car and see the villages and towns in the hills behind the coast.

A 30 minute drive into the hills takes you to Loule, a charming traditional town. With a daily food market, old castle and shaded shopping streets, it makes an ideal stop for lunch before returning to the coast.

For golfers, the 9-hole Balaia golf course and 9-hole Sheraton Pine Cliffs course at Olhos D'Agua are nearby, with 6 full, championship courses at Vilamoura.
