Carvoeiro is a picturesque town with lovely beaches, plenty of restaurants and a choice of activities nearby, making it the idea place for family and couples’ villa holidays. Carvoeiro Beach has an old world charm watched over by traditional buildings set into the cliff. The town stretches back from the sheltered sandy beach with the pretty streets lined with whitewashed boutiques, bars and restaurants.  The nearby Blue Flag beach of Praia de Centianes is a dream for photographers with ochre cliffs, golden sand and calm waters. For walkers, explore the boardwalk around Carvoeiro to see the caves and coves that have been carved from the sandstone. It’s lovely way to enjoy the sea views and the Algarve’s amazing climate. Families will love the nearby waterparks and wild life parks. Villa Plus have villas within walking distance of the resort centre which are ideal for families.

Exploring Carvoeiro On Villa Holidays

In the centre of Carvoeiro is the daily fresh fruit and fish market, as well as plenty of mini markets and a supermarket, so you can buy all the ingredients you need to cook at your villa. There are plenty of boutiques and souvenir shops for clothes and gifts too. The larger town of Portimao is 25 minutes' drive away and has a larger selection of shops in its pedestrianised area. For a day of retail therapy, take the opportunity to visit Aqua Portimao, a commercial shopping centre with many designer shops.

Carvoeiro has an impressive choice of restaurants, bars and cafes and the range of cuisines includes Italian, Indian, British and Portuguese. For fresh seafood, drive 15 minutes to nearby Ferragudo and dine at the traditional style restaurants on the waterfront. If you’re looking for lively nightlife, visit Praia da Rocha, a bustling resort just beyond Portimao where you'll find a choice of bustling bars and clubs.

In the centre of Carvoeiro, the main beach has soft golden sand and lovely views of the surrounding limestone cliffs. Slightly further is the little cove of Praia dos Caneiros backed by high ochre sandstone cliffs. This Blue Flag beach has stunning golden sand with calm waters, and there are plenty of sunbeds and parasols for hire. There is also a pleasant walk along the quay where you can admire the stunning views. To the east of the resort is the scenic Praia de Centianes which has a couple of good beach bars and you can hire sunbeds and parasols. You can also take boat and sea kayaking trips from here to explore the coastline.

For a family day out, the Slide and Splash Waterslide Park is one of the best waterparks in Europe and is just a 10 minute drive away. If you want to try another waterpark, Aqualand is only 20 minutes’ away. Another choice is Zoomarine, an exotic marine life theme park 30 minutes’ drive from Carvoeiro. The park has dolphins, sea lions, turtles, sharks, a museum and an alligator farm, as well as a mini zoo and exotic birds. For American-style bowling visit Praia da Rocha Bowling Alley.

The small resort of Benagil has a magnificent beach most famous for its sensational cave called Algar de Benagil which is only accessible from the water. Take a boat or sea kayak to the cave which has a round hole in the ceiling that frames the beautiful blue sky. The traditional old village of Pera is about 20 minutes’ from Carvoeiro with its church, narrow streets, and small cottages - a taste of the real Algarve on the doorstep. Inland is the city of Silves, historic and Moorish with a castle, museum and cathedral.
