Villas in Albufeira

An Albufeira villa holiday is a great choice for families and couples alike - it has retained its character as one of the original Algarve resorts while adding exciting new attractions. The famous Fisherman’s Beach offers a selection of watersports while wildlife viewing boat tours depart from the contemporary marina. When you are ready to try some Portuguese cuisine, explore the winding cobbled streets of the old town which are filled with traditional restaurants. For international flavours, visit the marina for a choice of elegant eateries and fashionable bars. Finish your evening at one of the live music venues around the main square where musicians keep the crowds entertained or discover one of the many nightclubs and dance until sunrise.

What to do on an Albufeira villa holiday

The old town of Albufeira has a maze of streets lined with shops offering a selection of crafts, local wine, and souvenirs. On the outskirts, is the municipal market where you can join the locals buying fresh produce including locally caught fish. To stock the fridge at your Albufeira villa, there are plenty of international supermarkets and local mini markets in and around the resort.

Albufeira has a great selection of cuisines for everyone. You can eat like a local and try the grilled sardines with a view of the sea. Around the marina, you’ll find plenty of European and Asian restaurants and cool bars for a cocktail at sunset. After dinner, walk through the main square or the streets running down to the beach and choose between cocktail lounges, sports bars, and nightclubs.

Fisherman’s Beach is an absolute highlight of Albufeira with a huge crescent of golden sand backed by glowing sandstone cliffs and beach cafes with a view of the boats. The sheltered bay is ideal for sea swimming and there are plenty of watersports to try. You may prefer to relax with a novel and hire a sunbed and parasol. The town’s other beach, Praia di Penaco, is smaller but no less appealing and you can stroll on the promenade or enjoy at ice cream at the beach club. If you want to travel a little further, the nearby sandy beaches in Praia d’Oura which has coveted Blue Flag status and Fort San Joao are both worth visiting.

An Albufeira family villa holiday has plenty to do, both in and around the resort. Try a dolphin watching boat trip, paragliding or sea kayaking, all available to book at the marina. The popular Zoomarine theme park is perfect for a day out with hundreds of fascinating sea animals and fish and only 20 minutes’ drive from the resort. Aqualand is a perennially popular waterpark to suit all ages and only 15 minutes’ drive from the resort. For older children and teenagers looking for some high adrenaline action, take a 10 minute drive to Parque Aventura in nearby Santa Eulalia which has paintball and tree top adventure courses.

Keen golfers will know the Algarve has plenty of championship courses to choose from. The closest is the Balaia Golf Course, less than 15 minutes’ drive from Albufeira. To explore the Algarve further, take a jeep safari or hire a car and see the villages and towns behind the coast. Take a 30 minute drive into the hills behind the coast to Loule, a charming traditional town. With a daily food market, old castle and shaded shopping streets, it makes an ideal stop for lunch before returning to the coast.
