Villas in Portugal

The superb climate, beautiful beaches and tasty food and wine – not to forget friendly, hospitable people – make Portugal irresistible when looking for a relaxing villa holiday. Our villas in Portugal are all located in the sunny Algarve region, an ancient land where the Romans once built their villas and farms. Tourism first began in the 1960s, when the chic resorts of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura – also known as the Golden Triangle – were created for golf enthusiasts. Today, the sport is still very well catered for in the area.

Located in the southernmost region of Portugal, the Algarve has a favourable Mediterranean climate, with long sunny days in the summer and moderate rainfall in the winter. Its 125 miles of coastline offers plenty of beaches just waiting to be explored, ranging from the rocky coves of Carvoeiro to the expansive stretches of Falesia. You’ll be spoilt for choice.

There are also lots of resorts to discover. You can enjoy small traditional fishing villages like Olhos D’Agua, or action-packed nightlife in the popular resorts of Albufeira or Praia d’Oura. Alternatively, if you prefer a more traditional Portuguese town, head to Guia, home of the famous piri-piri chicken dish.

The Algarve offers lots of other tasty food to sample, such as cataplana – a one-pot meal incorporating a variety of fish. Many of the beaches have cafes and restaurants, too, so you enjoy the catch of the day with a sea view.

On top of that, there are plenty of family attractions to keep the children occupied. They can swim with dolphins at Zoomarine, try thrilling rides at the many waterparks, including Aqualand, or try out water sports on many of the beaches.

Best for…

• 125 miles of coastline
• Freshly caught seafood
• Small coves and beaches
• Great golf courses
• Waterparks for families
• Sunny coastal climate

Portugal Climate and When to Visit

Expect to find temperatures averaging 24°C to 29°C in the summer, becoming even hotter in July and August – perfect for a beach villa holiday. Summertime is full of events, festivals and exhibitions for you to sample some local culture, too.

If you prefer to keep slightly cooler and avoid the crowds, the months at the beginning and end of the season are ideal and perhaps a good time to visit inland towns like Loule, with its daily market. From March onwards, you can see the beautiful flowers come to life all over the cliffs and paths – the perfect time to enjoy coastal walks. Autumn and spring are key seasons for golf here, with no shortage of courses to choose from – there are five courses in Vilamoura alone!

Villa Plus in Portugal

Villa Plus has over 200 villas to rent across a range of resorts, so whether you’re looking for a centrally located property or a countryside rental, we can help you find it! Our villas are made for alfresco living, with private pools, BBQs and outdoor dining areas. Most of our pools are heated, so you can even take a dip when it’s a little chillier. We cater for many different group sizes, too, with villas ranging from 2 to 8 bedrooms.

The chic resorts of Vale do Lobo, Quinta do Lago and Vilamoura are perfect for a sophisticated villa holiday. All three of these elegant, upmarket resorts are a golfer’s paradise, with several courses in the vicinity. A visit to the largest marina in Portugal, in Vilamoura, is a must. It’s full of glamorous yachts, casino, bars and restaurants, not to mention sports facilities if you fancy getting active. After which, you can head back to the comfort of your air-conditioned villa to relax by the private pool.

For those seeking a lively villa holiday, book a villa getaway to Praia d’Oura. Most of our rentals here are located within walking distance of the famous Praia d’Oura Strip (renowned for its bars, clubs and restaurants) and the beach is not far away either. The popular neighbouring resort of Albufeira is a little more traditional, perfect for a family villa holiday with its fantastic sandy beach and nearby amenities.

If you are looking for a beach villa to rent, then we can tick this box too. Why not book a holiday in Gale, with its 2 Blue Flag beaches? Or, check out our sea-view properties in Sao Rafael, Castelo and Albufeira, where you can laze by your own private pool whilst admiring the scenery! Villa holidays in Carvoeiro revolve around the beaches and coves which are set against dramatic cliff backdrops. Rentals here are well located for day trips to the picturesque fishing village of Ferragudo, too, which still retains traditional Portuguese ways of life.

We have a handful of villas in Luz and Lagos to the west, both of which are very family orientated with glorious beaches. Why not enjoy a bite to eat and a quiet drink at the marina as the sun sets on Lagos? A villa holiday in the Algarve countryside has the benefit of larger gardens for the children to play in, as well as a more tranquil setting for relaxing by your private pool. You can still keep in touch with the outside world, too, as most of our villas have Wi-Fi included!

A villa holiday offers flexibility, and in the Algarve, you will never be far away from family attractions and places to visit. Let the children enjoy the thrills and spills of the Zoomarine theme park and aquarium, or the range of water sports available on many of the beaches. There is really something for everyone in this part of Portugal.
