Marina di Ragusa is a popular beach resort renowned for its lively nightlife, golden sandy shores and promenade brimming with drinking and dining spots. The smart marina is awash with large yachts during the summer months and is also a great setting for lunch. You’ll also be within easy reach of delightful Baroque towns that form the UNESCO World Heritage Site of this captivating region. Ragusa, Modica, Scili are just a few of the highlights well worth visiting during your stay.
A local market is held each Tuesday in the square. Here you’ll find lots of typical fresh Sicilian produce – from fresh fruit and vegetables to clothing and household items. The promenade that runs along the seafront and the stylish harbour also have plenty of shops including mini markets and boutiques ideal for picking up authentic souvenirs. Larger supermarkets can also be found on the outskirts of the resort.
You’ll be spoiled for choice with dining options within the resort. There’s fresh fish restaurants aplenty as well as many pizzerias and gelaterias to satisfy any sweet tooth. Meanwhile, the modern harbour is ideal for lunch with a view out to the yachts. By night, the resort comes alive and provides plenty of entertainment. From sundowners in cocktail bars to parties on the beach, night owls are well catered for.
The wide golden Blue Flag Beach of Marina di Ragusa stretches for around 2km. There are various lidos dotted along the beach offering refreshments, volley ball courts and sunbed hire. Some stay open late with live DJs providing entertainment while you dance the night away on the sand. Watersports such as windsurfing and paddle boarding are readily available.
You’ll find several other wonderful beaches a short drive away, including the beautiful Donnalucata resort, popular with locals. There’s also the lovely beach of Punta Secca, famed for the filming of Inspector Montalbano.
Children will love the choice of activities on offer at Marina di Ragusa. There are boat trips available, plus paddle boards available to hire, as well as windsurfing and kite surfing for the more adventurous. It’s also possible to hire bikes and cycle along the coastal promenade.
Modica, around 35 minutes' drive from the resort, is famous for the art of chocolate production. There are shops, museums and souvenirs dedicated to the delicious treat! Children may like to climb on board the little train that runs through the streets to learn about chocolate. You can also visit the oldest chocolate shop in Sicily here, where you can take a behind the scenes tour and of course, tuck into the produce.
A little further afield, just over an hours' drive away, is Parcallario, a fantastic adventure park set in dense woodland. Brave the tree top walkways, whizz down the slides and fly along the ziplines!
The fascinating Baroque town of Ragusa has many stunning landmarks that are conveniently signposted. There’s the Basilica di San Giorgio with its characteristic blue dome, that sits atop a staircase of around 200 steps. Elegant buildings appear to tumble down the sides of the gorge the UNESCO town sits in, with intricate palazzi and houses sitting side by side. Foodies won’t be disappointed either. There are 3 Michelin starred restaurants in Ragusa, as well as plentiful cafes to recharge in.
Around 20 minutes’ drive from Marina di Ragusa is the 19th century Donnafugata Castle. Once the summer home of an important aristocratic family, you can now visit the Arab inspired castle and its museum. It’s a remarkable property with 122 rooms and fragrant botanic gardens that are lovely to wander.
