Villa Location
Villa Zaffiro is a semi-detached property set in the Pugliese countryside. Ideally situated just 15 minutes' drive from Ostuni, the villa is in the beautiful region known as Valle d'Itria. There are plenty of traditional bars and restaurants to discover in the surrounding towns including Ceglie Messapica and Cisternino. Each has their own character, markets and speciality dishes to try. Meanwhile, the stunning Adriatic coastline is just a car journey away, offering fabulous beaches including Quarto di Monte.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

For daily essentials, there's a mini market 5 minutes' drive from the villa. For a taste of local flavour, head to the open market in Ostuni held on Saturdays. Here you'll find a variety of goods and produce, from clothes to fresh fruit and vegetables. Ostuni is also a great spot for shopping with plenty of charming boutiques offering interesting jewellery and clothing.

Bars and restaurants

In Ostuni, local restaurants and 'trattorie' can be found in old restored houses or trulli buildings in the historical centre. Experience the warm hospitality as you sample local pasta dishes and almond desserts washed down with local wines. Alternatively, visit Ceglie Messapica. Highly regarded as one of Puglia's culinary highlights, you can while away an afternoon in a traditional osteria sipping an aperitivi. Don't miss the famous barbequing butchers of Cisternino. Simply select your meat of choice and sit back and enjoy the spectacle with a glass of wine in hand!

Beaches

The varied Adriatic coastline offers rugged rocky coves and beaches of soft sand. Choose from public bays and private beach clubs. The nearest beach is Quarto di Monte, a small unspoiled sandy bay, reachable in a 30 minute drive. There are a couple of restaurants near to the beach and sunbeds available to hire.

Family fun

For animal loving youngsters, there's Zoosafari Fasanolandia, an excellent drive-through safari park located 30 minutes' drive away. The Acqua Park Egnazia also makes for a great day out. This fantastic waterpark has slides, shoots and waves suitable for all ages.

Places of interest

Don't miss the white city of Ostuni. With its fascinating network of narrow winding lanes, elegant palazzi and ancient churches, it's a wonderful setting to explore. Particular highlights include the 15th century Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral set on a hill and the main square 'Piazza della Liberta'. A little further afield is Alberobello, famed for its many trulli houses with characteristic conical roofs.

Golf

San Domenico Golf is an attractive course set amongst olive trees, a 30 minute drive away.

Other activities

You may like to take a trip to the Grotte di Castellana, a network of caves spanning almost 2 miles. You can take a guided tour of this natural wonder, approximately 45 minutes' away. There are also plenty of hiking and cycling opportunities nearby. Why not hire bikes and explore the countryside?

Activities and things to do
Activity
Alberobello
Alberobello has around 1,400 trulli, the distinctive houses with conical roofs for which the region is famous. The 'Trulli Zone' of the town spreads up a hillside and is perfect for strolling around, taking photos and shopping for souvenirs in the many gift shops. There is a small museum explaining how life would have been lived in a trulli.
Activity
Cisternino
Set on top of a steep hill with excellent views of the surrounding countryside, Cisternino has a couple of distinctive features. Its shops are more focussed on the arts with many galleries and specialist suppliers including an upmarket chocolatier in the main piazza. The other is the high number of butchers’ shops which run a lucrative side line by becoming restaurants each evening. Simply choose from the large selection of different types of meat and it will be taken away and grilled over a wood fire for you. A truly unique experience.
Activity
Grotte di Castellana
The limestone of Puglia has been worn away for 100,000 years creating caves and grottoes across the region, many of which have been turned into churches and visitor attractions. Grotte di Castellana is by far the largest with a network of nearly 2 miles. A guided tour takes around 2 hours or there is a shorter option of about 50 minutes.
Activity
San Domeico Golf
The San Domenico is located by the Adriatic Sea and  is considered  the best in Italy. This 18 hole championship club measures over 6300 meters, has a par of 72 and has been constructed to the highest standards, with greens conforming to USGA Specifications.
