Villa Location
Trullo Tesoro is located in Casalini, a typically Pugliese countryside borgo (borough), 5 minutes' drive from the historic centre of Cisternino. Well known for its culinary delights, this enchanting town has wonderful restaurants and charming streets of white washed houses waiting to be explored. Known as the Valle d'Itria, this beautiful pocket of Puglia is home to many more fascinating places to visit. Within a 25 minute drive are Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca and Ostuni, all with more dining options and stunning architecture.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Puglia is known for its culinary and cultural traditions and Cisternino is no exception. A treat for the senses, you can witness the colourful 'bancarelle' on Monday mornings. These small markets offer fresh produce and traditional goods at reasonable prices, ideal for picking up souvenirs to take back home. For holiday essentials, there's a supermarket 5 minutes' drive away.

Bars and restaurants

Do as the locals do and indulge in a leisurely breakfast of artisanal cakes, pastries and marmalade filled biscuits in one of the many coffee shops in Cisternino. The town's central piazza in the heart of the old quarter, Vittorio Emanuele, offers a wonderful setting to sit and watch the world go by. Don't miss the famous barbequing butchers of the region. Simply select your meat of choice and sit back and enjoy the spectacle with a glass of wine in hand. You could also visit Ceglie Messapica, 20 minutes' drive away, where you can enjoy the buzz of the piazzas and the excellent restaurants.

Beaches

The coastline of Ostuni, known as Marina di Ostuni is dotted with many small resorts such as Costa Merlata, Rosa Marina and Quarto di Monte, 30 minutes' drive away. A little further afield is the nature reserve of Torre Guaeto, with beautiful dunes, marshes and ancient olive trees.

Family fun

There are some great family friendly options within a 30 minute drive of the villa. For a fun filled day out, try Egnazia waterpark. There is also Zoosafari Fasanolandia, a fantastic safari and theme park. Budding equestrians may like to visit the horse riding centre at Centro Ippico Parco di Mare in Fasana.

Places of interests

A visit to nearby Ostuni will not disappoint. With its intricate network of narrow winding lanes, elegant palazzi and ancient churches, it's a wonderful place to wander around. Dubbed the 'White City', there are also plenty of boutiques to browse. Alternatively, venture to Martina Franca, the largest town of the area perched high on a hillside. Enter the old town centre through Porto Santo Stefano, a grand gateway, and admire the pretty piazzi. Don't leave before trying the town's speciality 'bombette', which are little parcels of mince, ham and cheese.

Golf

San Domenico Golf is a beautiful course set amongst olive trees, a 30 minute drive away.

Other activities

There are wonderful trekking and cycling opportunities in and around the area, which provide panoramic views of the landscape. Walking from Cisternino to Caranna, a small nearby town, you will pass ancient Roman houses and hillside caves.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Acquapark Egnazia
During the summer from June to September, Acquapark Egnazia offers a fun choice of water slides, a lazy river and two pools for playing and splashing. You can also hire sun beds and umbrellas to relax in the sunshine.
Activity
Ceglie Messapica
One of the lesser know towns of Puglia, Ceglie Messapica has plenty of charm with the twisting backstreets of the historical centre a lovely place to wander and find the semi-ruined castle, churches and courtyards. There are still plenty of people living in this quarter so you can see how largely unchanged life has remained. The town is at its liveliest in the evening when the shops and restaurants open again after siesta and residents come out for a stroll and to dine.
Activity
Grottoes
Venture underground to one of the region's many grottoes. The largest are at Castellana and Putignano with guided tours of the Grotte di Castellano taking up to 2 hours to see the whole 2 mile network of caves.
Activity
Martina Franca
An elegant town with a series of squares linked by narrow winding streets which retains a friendly, small town feel. It has some very fine Baroque architecture including a palazzo with amazing frescos. The weekly market is one of the most renowned in the area. Each year from mid-July to early August, it plays host to an arts festival with classical concerts and operas.
Activity
Ostuni
The most popular of the white towns of the region, it’s located on a hill facing the sea with a mixture of wide open piazzas lined with cafes and restaurants and narrow streets and alleyways, ideal for wandering and finding souvenirs. At the heart of the old town is a very impressive cathedral decorated outside with Baroque era carvings. Climb a short way up the slope past the cathedral to admire the ornate 18th century bridge which links two parts of a former palazzo.
