Alykes is a relaxing resort with so much to offer a variety of guests. You will find all the conveniences associated with a typical resort, yet in a much more traditional and tranquil way.
Located on the north east coast, Alykes is the gateway to the north of Zante, making access to the mountainous north and west of the island easy. Hire a car and explore the picturesque Blue Caves in less than 30 minutes, or take your time, stopping at small coves on your way. A couple of highlights include Makri Gialos and Xigia, the famous sulphur beach renowned for its healing properties.
Down at the resort's beautiful golden beach, hop on a boat trip or hire your own motorboat for the day to explore the coastline. Or, spend the day on the sand sampling the many water sports on offer – perfect for cooling off under the hot summer sun.
There are several mini markets dotted throughout the resort, supplying all your daily essentials. A larger supermarket is located in the nearby resort of Alykanas, just a few minutes’ drive away. Further large supermarkets can be found close to the islands’ capital, Zante Town.
Throughout the resort of Alykes and into neighbouring Alykanas, you will find local souvenir shops filled to the brim with gifts and mementos to take back home. Tsilivi, 15 minutes’ drive away, offers plenty more choices for avid shoppers plus, Zante Town, the island’s capital can be reached within 30 minutes by car. It has a wide selection of shops to suit all tastes, from jewellery and clothes, to gifts and souvenirs.
Further afield, on a drive into the mountains, explore the craft village of Volimes. Wander through the village bartering for local crafts and souvenirs with the stall holders and purchase wonderful herbs and honey all produced in Zante.
Traditional tavernas offering wonderful local delicacies and more modern restaurants can be found along the winding resort road and beach front. There is a great choice throughout Alykes so you’re sure to find something to suit everyone’s taste.
Beach bars offer a wide selection of meals and snacks and are often open from breakfast until late. The nearby resort of Alykanas offers even more choice, from authentic Greek delicacies to Chinese and Indian cuisine.
The sandy bay of Alykes which merges into Alykanas is one of the most beautiful in Zante. There’s no shortage of soft, golden sand here, which shelves gently into the clear water of the Ionian Sea - perfect for families with small children. The bay is ideal for watersports and you'll find plenty on offer, as well as banana boat rides and even an inflatable sofa! The beach is also dotted with bars, as well as sunbeds and parasols available to hire. Head north along the coastline and you'll discover some of the island's hidden gems, such as the beaches of Xigia, Makri Gialos and Mikri Nisi.
As well as thrilling water sports such as jet skiing that can be enjoyed down at the beach, motor boat trips are also on offer. You can hire your own or jump on a cruise to the fantastic Blue Caves or the dramatic shipwreck that is so iconic of the island. You could also head out on a turtle spotting cruise, with plenty of time for swimming, snorkelling or catching some rays on deck.
Or, why not climb aboard the tourist train that travels around the resort? You could also take a horse and carriage ride to neighbouring Alykanas - a real treat for little ones!
The larger resort of Tsilivi, just 20 minutes' drive away, is all about fun! Fantasy Mini-Golf offers three 18-hole courses for you to perfect your putting. There's Luna Park with endless amusements and Tsilivi also has its very own Water Park complete with an Aztec themed section, lazy river and 6 larger slides for the daredevils among you!
Don’t miss Navagio Beach which is better known as Shipwreck Beach. Accessible by boat, you can get up close and personal with the dramatic wreck or alternatively, see it from a fantastic viewpoint above.
Staying in Alykes also allows for easy access to the island's buzzing capital, Zante Town. It’s a great place to shop and explore, with plenty of bars, restaurants and a picturesque harbour. Visit Bocchali, which sits on a hill above the town, for views of the activity below. Why not stop here for a bite to eat or cocktail with a view?
