Agios Nikolaos

Holiday Villas in Agios Nikolaos

This up and coming region of Zante offers a stunning coastline and peaceful, family run tavernas that provide a taste of authentic Zante. The charming harbour of Agios Nikolaos has a small selection of eateries on the seafront as well as a little cove. You can easily depart from here by boat to some of the island’s most iconic sites including Shipwreck Beach and the magnificent Blue Caves.

You’ll find local mini markets dotted around this part of the island in Mikro Nisi, Agios Nikolaos and many of the villages of the region. The nearest large supermarket is in the resort of Alykanas, a little further south along the coastline.

Dining out in Agios Nikolaos and along the north east coastline, means your meal often comes accompanied with a stunning sea view. Dining options include Greek tavernas serving traditional cuisine to more upmarket restaurants that showcase locally inspired food with a modern twist. The pretty village of Mikro Nisi also has a couple of restaurants that offer authentic cuisine.

The beaches dotted along the coastline are mainly small, intimate coves. Makris Gialos Beach is a pebble bay with sunbeds on offer, while the beach at Agios Nikolaos Beach is within easy reach of the village’s drinking and dining options. Don’t miss the spectacular Xigia beaches to the south. Renowned for the healing properties of the sulphur infused water, these picturesque coves are backed by dramatic cliffs and have crystal clear waters.

Boat trips are the star attraction in this part of Zante. From Agios Nikolaos and Makris Gialos, you can hop aboard a boat and visit some of the top sights of the island, including Shipwreck Beach and the breathtaking blue caves. Alternatively, charter a boat and hop from cove to cove at your leisure. If you’re in need of some adrenaline fuelled activities, head south to the resorts of Alykes and Alykanas, where you’ll find plenty of watersports on offer.

While in the north, you’re well placed to visit Navagio Beach, which is better known as Shipwreck Beach. Accessible by boat, you can get up close and personal with the dramatic wreck or alternatively, see it from a fantastic viewpoint above. If you opt for the drive, you’ll pass through fragrant pine forests and friendly villages, including Volimes - a great stop for picking up handcrafted goods. Excursions to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia are also easily arranged from this part of Zante.
