Ideal for those wanting to experience authentic Greek life, Agios Leon is a traditional village set in the unspoiled west of the island. A great location to escape the crowds, the village has everything you’ll need during your stay. The nearby dramatic coastline dotted with coves allows plenty of opportunity for sea gazing, boat trips and magical walks. Top it off with a visit to one of the sunset bars of the region for sundowners with a view.
You’ll find local mini markets within the village perfect for stocking up on essentials for your villa, plus a bakery for fresh bread and treats. For a wider selection, there are supermarkets in Laganas resort, approximately 25 minutes’ drive away.
There are 3 tavernas in Agios Leon serving traditional Greek cuisine – ideal for a taste of authentic Zante. The village has a laid-back feel and is quiet come evening, but you’ll find an excellent sunset bar in the region with incredible views of the sea and dramatic coastline. For more international options, try the resorts of Laganas or Keri.
The beaches dotted along the western coastline are mostly small, rocky coves. Closest is Porto Limnionas with steps down to the sea and a taverna with enchanting views and sunbeds available. Another delightful setting is the beach at Porto Vromi - the view of aquamarine waters from the cliffs above are mesmerising.
Boat trips are the main attraction in the area for families. From Porto Vromi, you can hop on a boat to visit one of the island’s famed attractions, Shipwreck Beach. Well worth the adventure, opt to stop off at sea caves, swim in sparkling blue waters and see the dramatic shipwreck up close. A 25 minute drive will take you to Sarakinado Water Village, with lots of fun rides, chutes and splash pools for the whole family to enjoy.
Agios Leon is a charming whitewashed village with characteristic red roofs that’s lovely to wander around. There’s a 14th century church formed out of an old windmill that’s worth a visit. Nearby, the dramatic cliffs of the wild coastline beckon. Offering many opportunities for walks in nature, the views are magnificent in this region. A change of pace can be found in the resort of Laganas, around 25 minutes’ drive away. Here you’ll find bars that stay open late, plenty of restaurants and well-equipped sandy beaches.
