Villa Location
Villa Kismet is a detached villa set just above the resort of Trapezaki, with superb countryside and sea views. There is a restaurant and mini market just a short walk from your villa, and the centre of Trapezaki is just 5 minutes' drive away. Here you'll find some more shops, some great restaurants and bars and the sandy Trapezaki Beach. Our villas Vento and Mare are nearby.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

The nearest mini market is just 500 yards from your villa, great for stocking up for a BBQ. Trapezaki centre has a few more shops, but for an even greater selection head to the island's capital, Argostoli, just 20 minutes' drive away. Here you'll find some great gift shops as well as a local fruit and vegetable market. The nearest supermarket is on the main road to Argostoli, 10 minutes' drive away.

Bars and restaurants

There is a local taverna just 500 yards from your villa, great if you don't want to drive! You'll find a few more restaurants in Trapezaki, offering a relaxed atmosphere with a view. Argostoli is home to many tavernas serving traditional Greek cuisine, some overlooking the harbour.

Beaches

Trapezaki Beach is just 5 minutes' drive from your villa, with sunbeds and umbrellas available to rent in the high season. There is a small taverna serving lunch, and the sand shelves slightly making it a great choice for families. If you're feeling active you can walk along the coast to the next resort of Lourdas, known for having one of the most beautiful beaches in Kefalonia. There are sunbeds and parasols for hire, as well as a few laid back tavernas and bars.

Family fun

The best way to fully appreciate the beautiful coastline is from the water. Why not rent a boat, pack a picnic and explore the secluded coves and bays? The nearby village of Pessada, 10 minutes' drive away, has a small ferry port and fishing harbour. From here you can catch the ferry to the neighbouring island of Zante - great for a family day out.

Places of interest

The castle of St George, above the village of Peratata, was built by the Venetians and is well worth a visit. If you're interested in history, don't miss Old Skala and the interesting ruins of a 3rd century Roman villa, which was excavated in 1957 to reveal 3 magnificent mosaic floors.

Other activities

If you're feeling active, Trapezaki's countryside location makes it a great base for walking, cycling and horse riding.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Boat Hire and Watersports
Hiring a boat is a fantastic way of exploring Kefalonia's coastlines. A licence is not required, nor do you need previous experience as novices will receive introductory instruction in boat handling before being let loose.

Watersports, yacht charter (skippered or bareboat), scuba diving and riding are also available.

Activity
Loggerhead Turtle Sanctuary
There is a protected nesting site at Kefalonia called Kaminia beach. The sea Turtle Protection Society work hard and long to protect the fascinating creatures when they come in to nest on the beach. The females heave and tug themselves across the beach to find a nesting site digging holes and laying small round eggs. An average nest would have 120 eggs and once they are safely covered with warm sand the female returns to the water. Some females will lay as many as four times during the nesting season and the eggs take about two months to hatch. The baby turtles dig their way out at night and head instinctively for the sea. This natural pattern can be disrupted by noise and lights. Sometimes the body clock in the baby turtles goes away and they pop out during the day. If you see a turtle its best not to touch it as its essential to their survival that they make their own way to the sea. The Marine Turtle Project was set up some years ago to observe and record the nesting female turtles on the beaches near to the villages of Skala and Ratzakli on the south-eastern tip of the island. This project has continued to this day and incorporated a conservation programme to promote the protection of the beaches where these creatures lay their eggs. Just outside Katelios you will find a little old schoolhouse which has been transformed and is now the base for The Katelios Group for the Research and Protection of Marine and Terrestrial Life. The group was founded in 1994 and consists mainly of local people with an interest in the long term future of Kefalonia
Activity
Glass Bottom Boat
Based in the Southern resort of Skala, "Nautilus" is a specially constructed boat of high standards. Due to these high standards there is little movement in the boat, which is absolutely necessary because of the glass bottom. The possibility to watch the seabed, to view the rocky coast or to cruise the Ionian Sea waters at a speed of up to 30 knots, feeling the breeze and the sea very close will ensure a pleasant cruise.
Activity
Horse Riding
The nearest riding schools are located near Sami and Lixouri where you can learn to ride, improve your skills or simply enjoy yourself. There are mountain trails and beach riding to swimming with the horses.

Activity
Melissani and Drogarati Caves
Located in the area of Karavomilos near Sami, lies the Melissani cave which is undoubtedly among Kefalonia's most breathtaking attractions. Discovered in 1951 by speleologist Yiannis Petrohilos, Melissani cave also includes a beautiful lake with crystal blue waters which is 22 metres below ground level and its maximum depth is about 30 metres.

The complete tour is done by boat, first making a round trip around the first hall with the hole in the roof. Then the boat passes the island on the opposite wall, where a small channel exists. This channel is too narrow to row, but there is a rope at the wall and the gondolier pulls the boat through. The second hall is a huge cavern with an arched roof, which was also formed by a collapse, but this cave is more to the centre of the island and because of the slope of the hill, the overlying rock is still thick enough. The second chamber has numerous big stalactites and stalagmites.

Drogarati's Cave, which is also close to Sami is 60m deep and was discovered 300 years ago, when a part of it was destroyed because of a strong earthquake, and so the entrance was created. Initially the cave was developed and used by the community of Haliotata, under the supervision of the speleologist Mrs. Petrocheilos and since 1963 it has been open to the public.

Very comfortable and well set out villa. Three good sized bedrooms which all benefit from A/C. Excellent pool which is certainly bigger than most. Big enough to accommodate 6 people very comfortably. Pool table and table tennis table a great addition and appreciated by teenagers and adults alike.
