Lourdas has a great location if you want to explore Kefalonia. In one direction is Kefalonia’s capital, Argostoli with a pretty harbour and museums. You can book a glass bottomed boat trip to hopefully see the indigenous Loggerhead turtles. In the opposite direction, around 30 minutes’ drive away, you can go to Skala, an incredible long sandy beach with views of the mainland Greece.

One of Kefalonia’s most famous landmarks is the Drogarati Cave, a large underground chamber 37 metres below ground, lined with dripping stalagmites. The creatively named Chamber of Exaltation has marvellous acoustics and is often used for concerts. From Lourdas, it can be reached in around 50 minutes, by car.

Mount Ainos towers above the Lourdas coastline and is well worth exploring the national park around it if you enjoy hiking. The footpaths will lead you through pine forests until you are rewarded with incredible views across the island.
