Activities and things to do
Almyrida Water Sports
Almyrida is a village located in the mouth of of Souda Bay opposite the Akrotiri peninsular. It is a charming village, with a sandy/shingle beach where a variety of water sports are available.
The ancient city of Aptera
Aptera is located above Souda, near the village of Megala Chorafia, which is where the extensive ruins of the ancient city of Aptera can be found. The city walls of Aptera are made of large polygonal stones to the east and long rectangular ones to the west, the foundations have also been uncovered and now the church of St. John now stands which once stood the Temple of Muses. If history is what you are after then this is well worth a visit!
Waterpark - Limnoupolis
This great water park is set in a fabulous countryside setting away from the busy resorts of Chania. It’s 8 kilometres from the town of Chania and has a variety of rides from Kamikazi to the Lazy River.
Kalyves Resort
This small village is very conveniently situated to the east of Chania . It is spread along a lovely sandy beach where a number of bars and tavernas can be found. All the daily essentials can be found in Kalyves so if you do not want to stray far there is no necessity to do so. The pretty main street is lined with both shops and private houses and has altered little in appearance since tourists started visiting some years ago. Although it is a fairly busy little village it is aimed at those looking for a relaxing holiday.

The village overlooks the entrance to Souda Bay, one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean which attracts many cruise ships.

The surrounding areas are very mountainous and at the beginning of the summer, snow can still be seen on the mountain peaks. The village is a good base to get out and about and especially good for those who enjoy walking, bird watching and those keen on flora and fauna. Artists too come to capture the unique light particularly in the Spring. The Samaria Gorge can be tackled from here as can too the Imbros Gorge which is smaller and less arduous.

Mega Place
This is a great complex in Chania where children can let their hair down with a variety of play areas all under one roof.
