Villa Location
Villa Thanos overlooks the seafront on the outskirts of Kassiopi Village. A pleasant 15 minute walk will bring you to the harbour, lined with a variety of tavernas, bars and shops, as well as the impressive Kassiopi Castle. This popular resort also has several small beaches, the nearest being ½ mile from the villa. Plus, you'll be well-placed for exploring the island - you can reach any of the resorts on the North East Coast within a short drive, as well as various family attractions.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Kassiopi has numerous shops selling clothes, beachwear and authentic Greek souvenirs. There's also a couple of mini markets and supermarkets where you can stock up on daily essentials. If you prefer the hustle and bustle of a proper market, you'll need to venture back towards Corfu Town. The market here offers gifts, fresh fish, vegetables and fruit, and the town centre is filled with quaint souvenir shops as well as high street brands.

Bars and restaurants

Kassiopi has the largest selection of restaurants of all the resorts on the North East Coast. You'll find everything from modern cuisine to traditional waterside tavernas. There are even several karaoke and sports bars, plus traditional bars with Greek dancing!

Beaches

In the centre of Kassiopi there are several small beaches, all pebbly, but equally picturesque. The more substantial beaches of Avlaki and Kerasia can be reached by car within 15 minutes.

Family fun

Children will love the Hydropolis Waterpark, around 20 minutes' away in the area of Acharavi, or the larger Aqualand Waterpark, an hours' drive south, in the village of Agios Giannis.

Places of interest

By day you can venture into Kassiopi harbour and enjoy views of the imposing castle which overlooks the boats. At night, the castle is lit up which creates a beautiful backdrop as you dine.

Or, in the true spirit of Greece, motor boats can be hired locally to explore the stunning bays of Kouloura, Kalami and Agni along the North East Coast. Alternatively, visit the hidden villages of Mount Pantokrator and the abandoned village of Old Perithia which, today, is being brought back to life, with summer tavernas catering for visitors. Corfu Town is also not to be missed - the shops, market, fortresses and huge choice of restaurants and cafes make it a great day trip!

Golf

Corfu's only golf course is located a little over an hours' drive south in the Ropa Valley.

Other activities

Horse riding, dingy sailing and boat trip facilities can all be found nearby.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Self drive boat hire
The Corfu is an ideal location to hire a small boat and skipper yourself and family for the day to explore the many coves and beaches. There are a number of resorts where boats of several different sizes can be hired locally. Usually there are boats with tiller steering and ones with steering wheels. Most boats have a sun canopy. All boats have life vests and are fully prepared. You do not need a speedboat licence to drive a boat with an engine smaller than 25hp. Instruction can be given if required.
Activity
Watersports
Virtually all major beaches and many of the smaller ones have water sports of one form or another available.

Generally pedalos and small canoes can be found everywhere and sports activities include water-skiing and water boards, para-gliding, ringos, banana boats and the latest 'fish' which works on a similar principal.

Most water sports jetties offer lessons and some offer courses for children.

There are very few places that now offer jet skiing. One beach is Gouvia beach where a qualified instructor has tow jet skis available for hire.
Activity
Pontikonisi
The tiny picturesque island of Pontikonisi (or Mouse island) and the nearby convent of Vlacherna has become a symbol for Corfu appearing on almost all promotions for the island. With its tiny miniature Byzantine chapel set on top of the little tree covered island it is a pleasant place to visit and can be reached by local boats that do regular trips from Kanoni.

Activity
Pantocrator Mountain
The highest point of Corfu and standing majestically overlooking the North East corner of Corfu, Corfu Town and the mainland beyond.

One of the many beautiful driving routes on the island takes you up through several small villages including Spartillas, known (along with its sister village Lakones on the opposite coast) as 'the balcony of Corfu' because of its spectacular views.

Follow on through Strinillas, one of the original hidden villages, built out of sight of the coast and therefore the marauding pirates of the time and up a narrow road to Mount Pantocrator the highest point on the island at 906 metres.

There is also an adventurous drive from the North of the island, but this is best done in a four wheel drive vehicle.

The last section of the road is better walked by the nervous but the fantastic panoramic views from the monastry and café, at the top are well worth the effort.

Activity
Waterparks
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

One of the hotels in Sidari also has a few small waterslides and a pool, open to the public.

This was the best equipped villa we have been in. There were plenty of sun beds, comfortable seating and plenty of crockery and glasses. The slow cooker was brilliant for easy eating in meals. The villa location was fantastic.
