Villa Location
Villa Himara is in a great location, perched on the edge of Kassiopi Village. It's a 10 minute walk into the resort which is centred around its quaint little harbour, lined with many shops, restaurants and bars. You'll also have a couple of great beaches within easy reach on foot, on the other side of the headland. The resort has a laid-back atmosphere by day, but the bars and restaurants really come alive in the evening, offering a great ambience as you dine.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Kassiopi has several shops selling clothes, souvenirs and beach accessories, and there's a handy mini market within a 10 minute walk for daily essentials and BBQ supplies.

The islands only market is in the capital, Corfu Town. Here, the stalls sell fresh locally caught fish, vegetables and fruit. The town centre is filled with gift and high street shops which, despite being an hours' drive south, is still well worth the journey.

Bars and restaurants

The road leading into Kassiopi has a few good tavernas, with a much larger choice to be found around Kassiopi Harbour. There are both modern and traditional restaurants, as well as a few lively bars with TV sporting events, karaoke and Greek dancing. The harbour is overlooked by the remains of Kassiopi's 15th Century castle which is lit up at night, creating a wonderful ambience while you dine.

Kassiopi has a couple of small but pleasant pebbly beaches around the headland, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. The nearest is Kassiopi Kalamionas Beach, 15 minutes' walk away, which has a couple of restaurants overlooking the waterfront. Or you can visit the longer shingle beach of Imerolia, 5 minutes further along the seafront. There's a good seafood taverna right on the beach where you can stop for lunch.

Family fun

Children will love paddling and snorkelling in the sea. You can also venture 20 minutes' drive west to the popular Hydropolis Waterpark in Acharavi. The larger Aqualand Waterpark is an hours' drive back towards Corfu Town.

Places of interest

In the true spirit of Greece, motor boats can be hired locally to explore the stunning bays of Kouloura, Kalami and Agni along the North East Coast. Alternatively, the breath-taking views from both Paleokastritsa and Mount Pantokrator are certainly worth seeing. There are also various quaint little Greek villages to explore, and no trip to Corfu would be complete without a visit to Corfu Town. The towns charming shops, lively market, restaurants and bars, marina and fortress make it a great day trip!

Corfu's only golf course is located a little over an hours' drive south in the Ropa Valley.

Other activities

Horse riding facilities, water sports and various boating excursions can all be found nearby.

Activities and things to do
Horse riding
If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse. There are several horse riding schools around the island.

There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Eremitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables.

Sailing is a wonderful pastime on the generally calm Ionian waters with its sheltered coves and steady afternoon breezes, and as you would expect, there are sailing schools dotted around the island.

In Avlaki (well known for constant breezes) there is a dingy sailing school with many different types of small "fun and fast" craft.

For those that prefer larger craft there are various yachting agencies and private charter individuals in Gouvia Marina that offer captained or bare boat charters on request.
Though not known particularly for its windsurfing Corfu none the less has two good windsurfing schools. One is in the south of the island and the other is on Avlaki beach in the North.

Windsurfing is something all the family can enjoy, either out at sea or from the comfort of a sunbed on the beach! A range of boards and lessons from qualified instructors are available, if required

There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Karen Knight, 22-Jul-2013

Spiros, the owner & his wife Yiannulta, made us feel very welcome. Each time they visited to clean the villa, we received a gift of figs or peppers or tomatoes which they had grown. A real home from home, with the sun.

A very well maintained villa, attention to detail given & very much a home from home. The gardens were immaculate & we met the owner several times.
