Villa Location
Villa Myrto is perched on the hillside above the quaint Greek town of Kalami, which is centred around its picturesque pebble beach. It's a pleasant 15 minute walk into the resort which has several good tavernas overlooking the seafront, including the famous White House Restaurant on the far side of the bay. Also within 15 minutes on foot is the charming fishing village of Kouloura, which has a lovely little harbour and a fantastic seafood taverna right on the waterfront.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

A 15 minute walk downhill will bring you into the centre of Kalami, where you'll find a few small gift shops and a mini market for daily essentials. Serious shoppers should head to Corfu Town, 45 minutes' drive away, which has a lively market, plus many quaint gift shops as well as larger high street brands.

Bars and restaurants

Kalami is centred around the beach which is lined with several waterside tavernas, including the famous White House restaurant, once home to the author Gerald Durrell. The road to Villa Myrto is accessed from also leads right into Kouloura, 15 minutes' walk downhill. This quaint little village has a circular harbour with a few small fishing boats, and a great tavernas on the waterfront offering good seafood and wonderful views. If you're visiting in the evening, you may need to take a torch!

Beaches

This small but charming seaside resort has a lovely pebbly beach, perfect for sunbathing, snorkelling and swimming, with water sports facilities, boat trips and boat hire all available. Kouloura also has a very pleasant little beach, shaded with huge eucalyptus and pine trees. Or, for very keen walkers, there is a tiny coastal path that leads from Kalami to Agni and Kaminaki to the south, as well as Kerasia and Agios Stefanos in the north, all of which have great beaches.

Family fun

Corfu has a choice of good waterparks. The largest is Aqualand, around 45 minutes' drive back towards Corfu Town. Though a little nearer to home is the popular Hydropolis in Acharavi, around 30 minutes away.

Places of interest

The island is full of little villages and there is also some spectacular scenery to be enjoyed. Why not visit the Pantokrator Mountain, Corfu's highest point, and admire the view over the island to the open sea - don't forget your camera! A daytrip into Corfu Old Town is also not to be missed. Here you can explore the maze of cobbled streets lined with souvenir shops. Alternatively, enjoy a traditional Greek meze or look around the old and new forts before a cocktail or two by the harbour.

Golf

The islands' only golf course is around an hours' drive away on the mid-west coast.

Other activities

For anyone who does decide to hire a car, access to the inland and coastal areas of the north are within easy reach, and a great way to see some of Corfu's superb scenery. Or, in true Greek style, why not hire a motorboat and see the island from the sea? There are also various boat excursions available from the village into Corfu Town.

Activities and things to do
Activity
Boat trips
The beautiful 14 meter motor yacht, the Nautilus, offers trips around the North East coast of the island or a day or night time cruise round to Corfu Town. The boat has a BBQ and passengers will also have the chance to swim from the boat - perfect for snorkelling!

http://www.dailycruisescorfu.com/index.html

Paleokastritsa has little boats that take up to 20 people on small tours to the nearby caves. The tours last about an hour and are a lovely way to admire the dramatic scenery and small caves of the West Coast.

Calypso glass bottom boat leaves from Corfu old port on a regular basis. A large glass bottom boat it takes big groups to a spot just off the island of Vidos. The round trip takes about an hour and children can see sea lions and the fish around the island.

Activity
Self drive boat hire
The North East corner of Corfu is an ideal location to hire a small boat and skipper yourself and family for the day.

There are a number of resorts where boats of several different sizes can be hired locally

Usually there are boats with tiller steering and ones with steering wheels. Most boats have a sun canopy. All boats have life vests and are fully prepared. You do not need a speedboat licence to drive a boat with an engine smaller than 25hp.

Instruction can be given if required.
Activity
Watersports
Virtually all major beaches and many of the smaller ones have water sports of one form or another available.

Generally pedalos and small canoes can be found everywhere and sports activities include water-skiing and water boards, para-gliding, ringos, banana boats and the latest 'fish' which works on a similar principal.

Most water sports jetties offer lessons and some offer courses for children.

There are very few places that now offer jet skiing. One beach is Gouvia beach where a qualified instructor has tow jet skis available for hire.
Activity
Horse riding
If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse. There are several horse riding schools around the island.

There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Eremitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables.

Activity
Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.

Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.
