Villa Location
Villa Anastasia is in a fantastic central location. It's a gentle 10 minute stroll downhill to reach the beach and centre, including the famous White House restaurant. Kouloura's well-known seafood taverna by the harbour is also around 10 minutes away on foot. If you want to see more of the island but prefer not to drive, you can hire a motorboat and venture along the coast to any of the neighbouring resorts or hidden beaches. For larger groups, villas Mara and Mary Lou are next door.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

The street leading into Kalami is in front of Villa Anastasia making it easy to walk into the centre of the resort in less than 10 minutes. Here you'll find a choice of shops where you can buy souvenirs or fresh food to take home and cook on your own brick BBQ. Serious shoppers should head to Corfu Town, 45 minutes' drive away, which has a lively market, plus many quaint gift shops as well as larger high street brands.

Bars and restaurants

Kalami is centred around the beach which is lined with several waterside tavernas, including the famous White House restaurant, once home to the author Gerald Durrell. If you fancy a change of scenery, it's well worth walking 10 minutes around the headland in the other direction to Kouloura, which has a fantastic, well-known seafood restaurant right by the little harbour.

Beaches

This small but lively seaside resort has a lovely pebbly beach, perfect for snorkelling and swimming, with water sports facilities, boat trips and boat hire all available. Kouloura also has a very pleasant little beach, shaded with huge eucalyptus and pine trees. Or, for very keen walkers, there is a tiny coastal path that leads from Kalami to Agni and Kaminaki to the south, as well as Kerasia and Agios Stefanos in the north, all of which have great beaches.

Family fun

Corfu has a choice of good waterparks. The largest is Aqualand, around 45 minutes' drive back towards Corfu Town. Though a little nearer to home is the popular Hydropolis in Acharavi, around 30 minutes away.

Places of interest

The island is full of quaint little villages and there is also some spectacular scenery to be enjoyed. Why not visit the Pantokrator Mountain, Corfu's highest point, and admire the view over the island to the open sea - don't forget your camera! A daytrip into Corfu Old Town is also not to be missed. Here you can explore the maze of cobbled streets lined with souvenir shops. Alternatively, enjoy a traditional Greek meze or look around the old and new forts before a cocktail or two by the harbour.

Golf

The islands' only golf course is around an hours' drive away on the mid-west coast.

Other activities

For anyone who does decide to hire a car, access to the inland and coastal areas of the north are within easy reach, and a great way to see some of Corfu's superb scenery. Or, in true Greek style, why not hire a motorboat and see the island from the sea? There are also various boat excursions available from the village into Corfu Town.

Remember…

Activities and things to do
Activity
Boat trips
The beautiful 14 meter motor yacht, the Nautilus, offers trips around the North East coast of the island or a day or night time cruise round to Corfu Town. The boat has a BBQ and passengers will also have the chance to swim from the boat - perfect for snorkelling!

http://www.dailycruisescorfu.com/index.html

Paleokastritsa has little boats that take up to 20 people on small tours to the nearby caves. The tours last about an hour and are a lovely way to admire the dramatic scenery and small caves of the West Coast.

Calypso glass bottom boat leaves from Corfu old port on a regular basis. A large glass bottom boat it takes big groups to a spot just off the island of Vidos. The round trip takes about an hour and children can see sea lions and the fish around the island.

Activity
Watersports
Virtually all major beaches and many of the smaller ones have water sports of one form or another available.

Generally pedalos and small canoes can be found everywhere and sports activities include water-skiing and water boards, para-gliding, ringos, banana boats and the latest 'fish' which works on a similar principal.

Most water sports jetties offer lessons and some offer courses for children.

There are very few places that now offer jet skiing. One beach is Gouvia beach where a qualified instructor has tow jet skis available for hire.

Activity
Waterparks
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

One of the hotels in Sidari also has a few small waterslides and a pool, open to the public.

Activity
Horse riding
If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse. There are several horse riding schools around the island.

There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Eremitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables.
