Gouvia is a modern resort with a chic Venetian marina, which is the largest on the island. There are plenty of bars and restaurants to sample while admiring the impressive yachts. Gouvia offers great night life and entertainment come evening, plus a small shingle and sand beach with a choice of watersports on offer. What’s more, Paleokastritsa, home to some of the most spectacular scenery on the island, as well as Corfu Town, the must see capital, are both a short drive away.
In Gouvia you’ll find ample souvenir shops, 2 well stocked supermarkets, mini markets and a variety of clothes and jewellery shops to satisfy the most seasoned shoppers. The nearest market is in Corfu Town, approximately 20 minutes’ drive south of Gouvia. This is a great place to pick up delicious fresh produce for your villa.
Gouvia has plenty of restaurants catering to a range of tastes in the cosmopolitan marina and the main street that is slightly inland. Whether it’s Indian, Thai or Mexican you fancy, you’re sure to find something to suit. There are also plenty of Greek options, ranging from traditional tavernas to fast food options, plus some lively bars with entertainment that stay open late.
The beach at Gouvia is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the marina. It’s a crescent moon shaped bay that’s a mixture of sand and shingle. The watersports offering is plentiful, ranging from jet skiing to banana boat rides. Boat trips can easily be arranged too. There’s also Kontakali Beach to the east and the long bays of Dassia and Ipsos to the north. You’ll be well positioned to access the west coast too which has sandy beaches, including the spectacular Paleokastritsa beaches.
Besides the adrenaline inducing activities down at the beach including watersports and boat trips, there’s the nearby waterpark, Aqualand. It can be reached in about a 30 minute drive. One of the largest waterparks in the world, it’s home to around 50 chutes and slides, a lazy river, wave pool and plenty more to keep kids smiling.
Corfu Town is a great place to spend the day. With its fortresses, museums, hidden leafy squares and abundance of shops and restaurants, there is something for everyone. The picturesque resort of Paleokastritsa with its monastery, soaring cliffs and caves that dip into sparkling turquoise water is only a 20 minute drive away from Gouvia – a must for scenery lovers.
