Villa Location
Villa Maria Corfu is in a great location, around 10 minutes' walk from Agios Stefanos. This charming Greek village is small but full of character, and is centred around its picturesque beach and harbour. Several shops and good tavernas line the seafront, where seafood is particularly popular. If you fancy a change of scenery, or want to see more of the island, it's only 10 minutes' drive into the livelier town of Kassiopi. You can also hire motorboats to explore the various nearby hidden coves and quaint villages!

Location features

Local markets and shopping

A pleasant 10 minute walk downhill brings you into Agios Stefanos. The resort has a couple of mini markets where you can stock up on food and daily essentials, or even order fresh meat and fish for a family BBQ. There's also a handful of small shops selling souvenirs and beachwear. Serious shoppers should head to Corfu Town, which has a lively market, a wealth of quaint gift shops and several larger high street boutiques along its cobbled streets.

Bars and restaurants

Down by the waterfront is a good selection of tavernas and small cafes offering great food, an easy-going atmosphere and lovely views over the boats bobbing in the harbour. There's a good mix of both traditional Greek and more contemporary dining venues, as well as a lovely taverna right on the beach, where fresh seafood is the speciality!

Agios Stefanos has an attractive small, pebbly beach right in the centre, ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling. The beach merges with the little harbour and there are several good tavernas right by the seafront where you can stop for lunch.

Family fun

A horse riding centre, dingy sailing and boat trip facilities are all nearby. There is also a small water park, Hydropolis, approximately 9 miles away, in Acharavi, and the bigger water park of Aqualand is situated in the centre of the Island in the village of Agios Giannis, around 22 miles away.

Places of interest

There are plenty of things to see and places to visit in Corfu. The views from both Paleokastritsa and Mount Pantokrator are simply breath-taking. Or, why explore any of the traditional inland villages and enjoy lunch at one of their quaint little coffee shops? Plus, no trip to Corfu would be complete without visiting Corfu Town. Its lively market, authentic and high street shops, fortress and restaurants make it a great day trip. You can even stay into the evening, enjoying dinner and cocktails at the Liston - the main central building lined with bars and restaurants - as you watch the sun set go down over the marina.

Corfu's only golf course is approximately 23 miles away in the centre of the Island, in the Ropa Valley, close to the village of Ermones.

Other activities

A great way to see more of the island is to hire a motor boat, which can be done locally. The beautiful bay of Kouloura, Kalami and Agni, as well as several hidden coves only accessible by boat, can be found further along the coast. Water sports are also available, or, if you prefer to keep your feet on dry land, there is a horse riding school nearby offering treks through the beautiful countryside.

Every villa comes with its own manual, complete with details of the best restaurants, taxis, local amenities and activities. And of course, our reps are on hand to make sure you love your holiday more. If you need any advice or tips on the local area, they will be more than happy to help.

Activities and things to do
Horse riding
If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse. There are several horse riding schools around the island.

There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Eremitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables.

Sailing is a wonderful pastime on the generally calm Ionian waters with its sheltered coves and steady afternoon breezes, and as you would expect, there are sailing schools dotted around the island.

In Avlaki (well known for constant breezes) there is a dingy sailing school with many different types of small "fun and fast" craft.

For those that prefer larger craft there are various yachting agencies and private charter individuals in Gouvia Marina that offer captained or bare boat charters on request.
Though not known particularly for its windsurfing Corfu none the less has two good windsurfing schools. One is in the south of the island and the other is on Avlaki beach in the North.

Windsurfing is something all the family can enjoy, either out at sea or from the comfort of a sunbed on the beach! A range of boards and lessons from qualified instructors are available, if required

There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Boat Trips
Easily one of the best, most enchanting and relaxed ways to see Corfu is from the sea. Whether you are happy just to remain local with a pedalo, be adventurous by hiring your own little boat, prefer your boat to be captained and be wined and dined or fancy going for the ferries and heading off to other islands, there is something for everyone. There are various boat trips and excursions on offer all over the island. The main areas to take to the sea are the North East Coast with its stunningly beautiful scenery and myriad of little pebble bays or Paleokastritsa with its dramatic cliffs and deep blue waters. 'Vivi' boat is a well-maintained traditional caique that does boat trips up the North East Coast of Corfu and to Corfu town. Taking no more than 14 passengers it is a lovely day out for the whole family. With or without a meal included it is a relaxed way to see the beautiful coast and some of the beaches only accessible by boat. Leaving at 11am and returning by about 4pm the trips are lovely and personal and the captain is particularly good with children. There are snorkels and masks aboard that the captain shows older children how to use. Paleocastritsa has little boats that take up to 20 people on small tours to the nearby caves. The tours last about an hour and are a lovely way to admire the dramatic scenery and small caves of the West Coast. Calypso glass bottom boat. Leaving from Corfu old port on a regular basis a large glass bottom boat takes big groups to a spot just off the island of Vidos. The round trip takes about an hour and children can see two sea lions and the fish around the island.

The villa was exactly as on the website. Cleanliness was brilliant, as was the maid service and pool service. Would highly recommend.
