Villa Location
Villa Anastar is in a great position facing the seafront, with fantastic views over the open water, towards the Albanian coastline. Kerasia seafront is around 10 minutes' walk downhill, and has a great fish taverna and pebbly beach. The beach, shops, tavernas and cafes of Agios Stefanos are 15 minutes' walk in the other direction, so you'll have plenty of variety close at hand! Plus, there are plenty of cultural and historic attractions, sightseeing opportunities and fun family activities within a short drive.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

Agios Stefanos is around 10 minutes' walk downhill, or a few minutes away by car, where you'll find 2 supermarkets and a couple of gift shops. Or, for a bigger choice of amenities, you can venture into either Sinies Village or Kassiopi, both within 15 minutes by car. The islands only market is in Corfu Town. The stalls and quaint gift shops sell various locally made souvenirs and fresh food, and there are also larger high street brands in the centre.

Bars and restaurants

Agios Stefanos has several seafront restaurants where you can dine and watch the fishing boats come and go. Kerasia, further south, is a pleasant 10 minute stroll downhill (though it can be steep on the return journey), and has a good seafood taverna and a cafe by the beachfront.

Beaches

The nearest beaches are at Agios Stefanos and Kerasia. Both have great tavernas by the sea for when you need a break from the sun - everything you need for a day at the seaside!

Family fun

Horse riding, dinghy sailing and boating facilities can all be found nearby. There are also a couple of waterparks within a short drive - Hydropolis is 20 minutes away in Avlaki, or visit the larger Aqualand waterpark on the outskirts of Corfu Town, an hour away by car.

Places of interest

The neighbouring resort of Kassiopi is 10 minutes' drive away and has a wide selection of tavernas, authentic grill rooms and cafes, as well as several gift and beachwear shops. In the true spirit of Greece, motorboats can be hired locally to explore the stunning bays of Kouloura, Kalami and Agni, all with beachfront tavernas. Or, why not venture to Corfu's highest point, Mount Pantokrator, and enjoy the superb scenery? The village of Old Perithia is also well-worth seeing - once abandoned, the village is now being brought back to life with several tavernas catering for summer visitors.

Golf

The islands only golf course is an hours' drive away on the mid-West coast of the island.

Other activities

Corfu certainly has no shortage of things to see and do. Why not visit the Byzantine Fortress of Kassiopi, the Achilleon Palace or Mon Repos? Not forgetting the old and new fortresses of Corfu Town with their spectacular views!

Activities and things to do
Activity
Corfu Golf Club
Designed by the famous architect Donald Harradine the Corfu course has been praised by many as one of the best kept in Europe and he has blended the natural resources of the lovely Ropa Valley with man made hazards to make the course a good but fair test. It is as enjoyable for the scratch player as it is for the long handicap one. The course is open 7 days a week.

The magnificent greens of Penncross Bent are considered to be the finest in the Mediterranean, the treelined fairways and the sandtraps combined with several lakes and meandering streams, make an attractive picture against a backcloth of high hills. A new modern irrigation system keeps the golf course in excellent condition even through the hot summer months. Over the past 3 years the golf course and clubhouse has undergone a total renovation. Bunkers have been redesigned, deepened, drained and filled with white sand, shipped in from a nearby Greek island.

Suitable for all levels of player with qualified instructors on hand for beginners and equipment rental available. It is also ideally placed for families who perhaps don't all share the same interest in the sport being a mere 10 minute drive from Aqualand, the largest waterpark on the island, 20 minutes out of Corfu town and 10 minutes from the nearest beach at Ermones.

It has a large well-appointed clubhouse and restaurant and is open all year round.

Activity
Waterparks
There are 2 waterparks on the Island: Hydropolis on the outskirts of Acharavi on the north coast, and the larger Aqualand in Ag Ioannis, just outside Corfu Town. Both parks have a good selection of slides, pools and various refreshments available. Aqualand is by far the largest of the waterparks and in fact one of the largest waterparks in Europe with a big selection of rides and activities for all ages (including a very sedate 'lazy river' for older party members!) It has a couple of cafes and snack bars, a small shopping area and plenty of sun loungers and is open from 9am-8pm daily all Summer.

Activity
Sailing
Sailing is a wonderful pastime on the generally calm Ionian waters with its sheltered coves and steady afternoon breezes, and as you would expect, there are sailing schools dotted around the island.

In Avlaki (well known for constant breezes) there is a dingy sailing school with many different types of small "fun and fast" craft.

For those that prefer larger craft there are various yachting agencies and private charter individuals in Gouvia Marina that offer captained or bare boat charters on request.
Activity
Horse riding
If you prefer not to do all the work what better way to enjoy the scenery and tone up the muscles a bit than by horse. There are several horse riding schools around the island.

There are two very nice ones: One at Avlaki where Alison takes you on a ride through the Eremitis peninsular with its lovely sea views, another is in Kato Korakiana where Sally takes lovely rides through the countryside from her well-tended stables.

Derek Angel, 02-Sep-2013

The Anastar is in an excellent position on the San Stephanie to Kerasia road. Set back in the hills it gave us wonderful views over a small cove, the Ioanian Sea and across to Albania. The Villa was well appointed and felt like a home from home.
