Villa Description
Swimming pool, garden and BBQ area

The outside space at Villa Slivari Novo II is one of its best features. There's a private swimming pool surrounded by a neat tiled terrace with plenty of space to sunbathe, bordered by a huge lawned garden dotted with olive trees and colourful flora. The covered side terrace has a wonderful summer kitchen complete with a large brick BBQ, hob, sink and storage, with a table and chairs overlooking the open gardens and countryside.

Off the country road leading into Zminj, a short country track veers off into Slivari Village. From the main lane through the village, a long driveway winds up to a spacious parking area and lawned garden in front of Villa Slivari Novo II. Although the house is semi-detached with Villa Slivari Novo I, their gardens face in opposite directions making both villas still quite private.

Living space

Inside, the villa is full of authentic charm and character, with stone walls and exposed beam ceilings. From the front garden, traditional wooden doors open into the fully equipped kitchen, which is decorated in typical green and yellow hues for a country cottage feel. It has a table and chairs and all the mod cons for a relaxing stay. A stone archway connects it to the lounge which is well furnished with comfortable seating and a flat screen TV, as well as a large ornamental stone fireplace.

Bedrooms and bathrooms

All 3 bedrooms are on the first floor of the house, and are furnished in the same country cottage style. There is 1 double bedroom and a twin bedroom sharing a separate bathroom. There is a further double bedroom with an ensuite shower room and patio doors opening onto an external staircase, with steps down to the BBQ terrace. Plus there's a WC on the ground floor too, off the kitchen.

Villa Location
Villa Slivari Novo II is in a wonderful tranquil location, in the low-key village of Slivari, 17 miles outside of Rovinj. The nearest shops and local restaurants (or konobas) are only 5 minutes away by car in the slightly larger town of Zminj. Rovinj itself really is worth visiting, where the quaint cobbled streets of the old town have many little shops and cafes leading up to the church, as well as restaurants along the harbourfront. Several beaches and attractions are also within a short drive.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

For basic holiday essentials, there's a supermarket 5 minutes' away, in Zminj. A larger choice of shops can be found 30 minutes away in Rovinj. This beautiful Istrian town has a maze of quaint, hilly, cobbled lanes lined with local gift shops, all leading up to the impressive Church of Saint Euphemia at the top of the hill, overlooking the harbour below. It also has a covered market selling traditional, locally sourced produce such as olive oil, honey, fruit and vegetables.

Bars and restaurants

Both Zminj and nearby Svetvincenat have a small choice of bars and restaurants serving mostly local authentic Istrian cuisine, as well as pizza. During your stay it's definitely worth venturing into Rovinj to eat. There are many quaint cafes and restaurants in the old town offering cold drinks and light dishes for lunch. At night, the restaurants along the harbourside are particularly special, as the sunset views from here are incredible, with the church in silhouette at the top of the hill.

A pleasant 30 minute drive through the countryside in either direction are the beaches of Rabac and Rovinj. Generally, the beaches in Istria tend to be rocky, but are still ideal for sunbathing and swimming. There are also a number of purpose built, paved sunbathing platforms as well as several shingle coves which slope gently into the sea, perfect for small children and non-swimmers.

Family fun

This part of Croatia is mostly known for its wonderful countryside, excellent local dishes and cultural attractions. However, there are still plenty of activities you can do as a family. Both Istralandia and Aquacolours waterparks are within 40 minutes' drive of your villa. Plus, Mini Croatia - a model village showcasing all of Istria's cultural highlights - is just outside of Rovinj, or venture 35 minutes north to the popular Dinopark in Funtana.

Places of interest

Simply enjoying a drive around the local area is an adventure in itself, and offers the spectacular scenic views for which Istria is famous. The Church of St. Euphemia in Rovinj is well worth visiting - even if the church itself is not your thing, the views from its position at the top of the hill are stunning. The town is a great place to spend the day, there are plenty of places to eat and shop, and it has a wonderful, relaxed atmosphere.

Just north of Rovinj is Lim, which has a magnificent valley with a channel where you can paddle, or stroll along and enjoy the scenery.

Further afield is Hum, the world's smallest town, with a population of 20, the hilltop village of Motovun, which has superb scenery over the whole of Istria, and the impressive Roman Amphitheatre in Pula - all within 40 minutes by car.

A 35 minute drive south will take you into Fazana, where you can catch the boat across to Brijuni Island. The island has a good golf course, as well as a small safari park and a couple of restaurants.

Other activities

Cycling is very popular in Istria, with over 60 miles of marked routes taking you through some of the most beautiful scenery in the local area.
