Villa Location
Villa Blanco is situated in the tranquil village of Sveti Ivan, which is centred around its picturesque hilltop church. The house is in a pleasant countryside setting, surrounded by farmland and forest, yet it's only 10 minutes' drive from a few small shops and places to eat in the larger villages of Baderna and Sveti Lovrec. The main coastal resort of Porec has a much larger choice of amenities, including beaches, 30 minutes' drive away, and a choice of attractions are also close at hand.

Location features

Local markets and shopping

The nearest shops are in the village of Baderna,10 minutes' drive south. A few minutes further will bring you into the larger town of Sveti Lovrec which has several shops for daily essentials. But venture into Porec for a much larger choice of places to shop, including quaint gift shops and a popular market.

Bars and restaurants

There are several cafes and a restaurant in Sveti Lovrec, as well as many traditional countryside restaurants - or konobas - dotted around the surrounding areas. Porec has a wealth of good restaurants, some overlooking the seafront, and 20 minutes' drive away is Lim Fjord Estuary, a popular scenic hotspot with a couple of good seafood dining venues.

The nearest coastal points - Porec, Vrsar and Funtana - all have a selection of stone and shingle beaches, as well as paved bathing platforms, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Sunbeds, parasols and pedaloes can usually be hired and most of the bathing areas have snack bars.

Family fun

There are 2 waterparks within a 25 minute drive - Aquacolors and Istralandia. At Funtana there's also a popular dinosaur fun park, and Porec is home to an aquarium and popular tractor museum. For anyone wanting something more adventurous, cycling, water sports, tennis facilities, go-karting and a choice of adrenaline parks can all be found within a short drive.

Places of interest

Porec has several cultural highlights including the Euphrasius Basilica and Baredine Jama-Grotta Caves. A 20 minute drive south takes you to Lim Fjord, the famous estuary which stretches over 6 miles towards the centre of Istria. Here you'll find several good seafood restaurants, Romauldo's Cave and some beautiful scenery - perfect for walking or cycling. Further afield is the picturesque hilltop village of Motovun, Hum - the world's smallest town - the Church of St. Euphemia in Rovinj, and the renowned Amphitheatre and Roman Gateway in Pula!

There are 2 golf courses within a 45 minute drive. Located in the very north of Istria is Golf Adriatic golf course, or you can travel to Fazana and catch the boat across to the course on Brijuni Island (which also has a great beach and safari park!)

Other activities

Cycling is a popular pastime in Istria, and its 60 miles of marked routes are a great way to see some of the beautiful scenery.

Activities and things to do
Euphrasius Basilica, Porec
The Basilica of St. Euphrasius in Porec is definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting to enjoy an authentic taste of Croatia and learn about its rich history. The Basilica has a collection of Byzantine art and architecture dating from the 6th century, included in the UNESCO List of World Cultural Heritage. The building is also easy to identify from the exterior, dominating the skyline of Porec, and is one of the most photographed sites in the area.

Baredine Jama-Grotta Caves
The Baredine Caves in Porec are well worth a visit if you're looking for something a bit different to do during your stay. The caves are an underground maze of stalagmites and stalactites, forming structures such as the 10 metre long curtains, a statue of the Virgin Mary, the shepherdess Milka's body, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the snowman torchbearer! A guide will take you on a 40 minute tour of the caves, past the 66 metre deep hatch descending to the underground lakes. Certain varieties of insects and crayfish can also be found and there is a museum to explore as well. The Traktor Museum and climbing centre are next door.

Brijuni National Park
The only National Park in Istria, Brijuni National Park is a group of islands off of Pula. Boats from the town of Fazana take around 15 minutes, although sight-seeing tours of the islands by boat also run from Pula. There is also a safari park which has various animals including zebras, elephants, llamas and ostriches, and a golf course on the coast overlooking the mainland.
