Due to its elevated position, Villa Erato secures superb views of the open countryside and sea in the distance. The authentic seaside village of Sfakaki and its beautiful sandy beach are only 1 mile away. A selection of family-run tavernas line the seafront and there's also a mini market here. The neighbouring resorts of Platanias and Adele Kambos are 10 minutes' drive from the villa. Here there's further beaches and a selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Plus, the vibrant resort of Rethymnon is also with a 15 minute drive. With this villa, not only do you get an idyllic setting, you're also a short drive to the amenities.
Local markets and shopping
For the daily essentials, there's a mini market ¾ mile from Villa Erato and for a wider selection of goods, the supermarket in Platanias is 3¾ miles away. The vibrant resort of Rethymnon and its several shops is around 20 minutes' drive from the villa. There's also a farmer's market here every Thursday, which sells fresh fruit and vegetables. If you want to sample 'the catch of the day', you can purchase fresh fish in Rethymnon Marina. Next to the marina is the old town, with its cobbled streets and selection of shops.
Bars and restaurants
There's a small selection of restaurants in the seaside village of Sfakaki, which is just 5 minutes' drive from Villa Erato. For a more varied selection of restaurants and bars, the resorts of Platanias and Adele Kambos are the places to go, and only a 10 minute drive away. The popular resort of Rethymnon has a wide choice of eateries to suit all tastes and is just over 7 miles from the villa.
The nearest beach to the villa is Sfakaki, here you'll find clear blue sea and a mix of sand and shingle, which is 1 mile away. Alternatively, there's Platanias Beach, which is mainly sand and has sunbeds and umbrellas, as well as a choice of tavernas and is 4 miles drive away. There's also the beaches at Adele Kambos and Rethymnon that are both very popular and a good choice for some fun in the sun and are both around 20 minutes' car journey.
There is something for everyone in Crete! There's a good choice of water sports on the beaches of Platanias, Adele Kambos and Rethymnon which range from jet-skis to banana boats. If you are wanting a spot of competition, then why not take to the go-kart track or crazy golf course in Platanias and Adele Kambos?
Places of interest
Running regularly from Platanias is the yellow road train, which can take you to some local attractions, such as the old town of Rethymnon and Arkadi Monastery. This is steeped in history and is known for its excellent wine. Also worth a visit is Margarites Village, which is famous for its ceramic production. Here, you can see the potter wheel and the finished product in one of the pottery shops. For a change of scenery, hop on one of the boats at Rethymnon Marina to the beautiful island of Santorini and experience the picturesque landscape.
The main 18-hole golf course is located just outside the resort of Hersonissos on the eastern side of the island.

Beautiful, quiet, isolated, lack of neighbours, not overlooked. We were UTTERLY surprised and very delighted. A real get-away-from-it-all villa, surrounded by nothing but fields! Exceptionally clean and with everything we needed. As ever, excellent value for money.

Beautiful, very well maintained and perfect location. Just an extra mention about Jean, our villa rep - incredibly helpful and very well informed. Made some excellent suggestions about where to visit.
