Villas In Istron

The village has enough shops to supply everyday needs and tavernas to ring the changes. These facilities fringe the main road which leads from Aghios Nikolaos to Sitia thus making it a great base to explore the eastern part of the island. There are so many places to visit on those days when you want to go and experience a bit of local life. To the east head off to the famous beach of Vai or for the culture vultures make for Zakros, a Minoan site which played such an important part in the Minoan civilisation. Closer to home is Krtisa where the village ladies sell their hand made lace sitting outside their houses whilst they work. One place which has to be visited is the village of Plaka north of Aghios Nikolaos which features in Victoria Hislops novel ‘The Island’. Hop on a boat and take the short trip over to Spinalonga which was a leper colony until the mid 1950's. The village is being restored and makes for a fascinating visit.
