#VPTravelTips – The Winners
Here at Villa Plus we like to give our holidaymakers the best advice on how to make the most of their holiday, no matter which country or resort they're jetting off to. There's no better way to get insider knowledge and advice on a holiday resort than from the experts – the people who have already visited!
With this in mind, we launched a competition to find the best travel tips from Villa Plus holidaymakers, using the hashtag #VPTravelTips. You shared your travel tips for the chance to win a £50 voucher every week for five weeks, and the overall prize of £500 to spend with Villa Plus.
From the best local restaurants to sample authentic cuisine to must-do day trips visiting untouched locations, and even insider knowledge on the customs and traditions - your advice was interesting, insightful and helpful! Selecting the winners was a tough decision, but we managed to choose our favourite travel tips for five locations.
Week one saw Carolyn Burton-Baddeley win, with her great advice on visiting Portugal:
“My #VPtraveltip for Portugal is to enjoy every minute - there is so much to do. Go to zoomarine - it's a fantastic place and you get to swim with dolphins much cheaper than say USA and an amazing experience. Also, when you go in you can buy a really cheap ticket to return another day! Well worth it! Loads to see and do, and perfect for all ages.”
Kathy Anne Clover won week two, with her insider knowledge on how best to spend your time in Greece:
“#VPTravelTips - after booking your holiday with Villa Plus, choose self-catering so you can enjoy eating at all the different tavernas. Make sure you explore all of the wonderful, historical sites, and most of all relax and enjoy the sunshine and ouzo.”
On week three we selected winner Jane Kelly, for her expert tips what to pack when holidaying in Spain:
“#VPTravelTips always take a travel kettle if staying in a hotel. Spanish hotels don't have them in their rooms. Always go Villa Plus!!!”
Cyprus was the winning location in week four, as Carolyn Burton-Baddeley once again imparted her expert advice, this time on Cypriot customs and traditions:
“Cyprus is a beautiful place to visit. The culture can be "old fashioned" by our standards and the Cypriots are very respectful of visitors so do your best to observe their cultures. If they offer you a drink - take it! They are being friendly but remember when visiting any of their amazing churches or monasteries to cover up - no shorts etc. It can be very hot in summer so bear this in mind, but benefits are the season is extended so fine to go into November #VPTravelTips”
In week five we found the best travel advice when visiting Turkey – from Laura Thom:
"Take a boat trip from Marmaris - a whole day out in the boat with lunch and drinks included for not very much at all. The scenery is stunning, it's lovely to feel the wind in your hair and the crew made it great fun. Had a couple of swimming stops and a shopping stop too - I'll definitely go again."
When it came to the overall winner of the £500 voucher, a person was chosen at random, and that lucky winner was Jane Kelly! Congratulations, and we hope that some of the brilliant advice imparted helps when deciding which Villa Plus location to spend your voucher.
Thanks to everyone who entered their incredible travel tips, we're sure that they will help our visitors to make the most of their Villa Plus holidays.
