Sporting Activities In Rhodes


There is a variety of sports that you can do whilst on your Rhodes holiday. From snorkeling in the sea of Lindos to horse riding on the beach, there is something for everyone to enjoy.


 


It is important before taking part in any sporting activity that you check your insurance coverage.

Rugby

For those of you that like watching a spot of Rugby whilst on your holiday, Rhodes has some good clubs which are located round the island for you to enjoy.

Kalathos Watersports Watersports include windsurfing, water sking, boat sailing, pedaloes and snorkeling. Diving enthusiasts should head over to Lindos where some of the best diving sites in Greece can be found.
Scuba Diving - Pefkos Pefkos has a beautiful beach of soft golden sand and from every direction pine trees, after which Pefkos was named, can be seen.
Pefkos is a very pretty, shallow dive site with many rock overhangs hiding a plethora of Mediterranean sea life.
Depth: to 12m
Visibility: average 20m
Temperature: 19°C rising to 30°C in August
Diver qualification: suitable for all qualifications
Cycling

Make your stay interesting by discovering the island on a bicycle. They are available all over the island and are cheap to hire.

Cruising

Cruises set sail from Mandraki harbour to nearby islands such as Kos, Symi as well as Turkey. You can purchase tickets on the harbour front.

Football

The local team Diagoras plays at Diagoras stadium in Rhodes Town. (They are not yet in the top Greek Division!) You will find 5 aside pitches all over the island.

Golf

A full sized golf course can be found in Afandou. Good facilities and you can hire equipment. If you want an electric buggy you should call in advance to book Tel. 22410 51451 other wise you can just go on the spur of the moment and play. Visit www.afandougolfcourse.com


 Mini Golf courts can be found in large Hotels and in the resort of Lardos.

Horse Riding

You can book a horse riding trip around Kiotari Beach at Dimitri’s Riding school located on Kiotari beach – but visit him at the start of your holiday to book – so not to be disappointed.

Scuba Diving

There are 2 companies that offer instructions for beginners as well as advanced courses and challenging dives for the qualified. Tennis

The main tennis club is at Kallipateira sports complex on the main road to Kallithea. There are two red clay courts, several hard courts – flood lit. The complex also has Beach volley courts, a gym and a 400m 8 lane track.  Many of the Hotels have tennis courts too, although they do vary widely in quality and you should pre book early.

Water Sports

Water sports are available on all the popular beaches of Rhodes. So whether you want to take a boat out for the day, go snorkeling, water skiing or fishing it’s easily organized.


Lindos Watersports Operates from the Main Beach in Lindos. Run by Michael-Matthew and Yannis Koufos. They have Water skiing, wake boarding, parascending, banana boat, big Mabel ride, and ringos. They are fully qualified from the British Watersports Federation.


 


One of the best spots is the Water sports Centre in Kiotari. Water sports at its best, with windsurfing, paragliding, Ringos, Banana rides and Pedaloes.

Wind Surfing

The most southern part of Rhodes is Prassonissi – a paradise for surfers. Surfboards and wet suits are available to hire.

Walking Tours

During the months of May, June, September and October, which also includes the winter months (out of summer season) anybody having already travelled to Rhodes who wishes to join  a guided walk, can contact Walking Tours  directly  at 0030 6945 166585 and make arrangements for a guided walk or walking package. Elpida Ranch

Elpida Ranch is located in Laerma, between Thari  Monastery and the idyllic village of Laerma. Specialising in small groups you will have the time to become familiar and comfortable with your horse before setting off. There are various tours available, that take family groups of mixed and experience riders out together. For all you early risers you can ride over the mountains enjoying the sunrise,  or choose a Panorama trip to the Monastery  Thari, the Dam or a more experienced ride into the forest. A full day tour is also available riding from the ranch, 15km to Kiotari, where horse and rider will have time to relax on the beach and have a swim in the sea!
