Villa location

This 3 bedroom villa is just a five minute walk to Gerani beach and a little taverna which is a great place to watch the sun go down. The villa is in a tranquil area, but the lively resort of Platanias is just a five minute drive away.

Location features

Gerani beach is only a five minute walk from the villa and the nearby taverna is a great place to watch the sun go down.

Fabulous beaches such as those at Falasarna and Balos delight with their crystal clear water.

The oldest olive tree which has been carbon dated to 3000 years old is a short car ride away. It is also possible to walk the famous Samaria Gorge, Europe's longest gorge at 11 miles in length.

The white mountain villages are worth a day exploring, particularly for those who enjoy nature. Birds of prey are frequently spotted and the flora and fauna in the Spring bring many visitors every year who want to identify species unique to the island.

The town of Chania is clearly divided into the old part and the new.
In the new town you will find all the normal services and facilities you would expect - even Marks and Spencer! The old town has Venetian and Turkish buildings everywhere. Craftsmen like the Cretan boot maker can be found in the narrow alleys at the back of the harbour. All of which are worth exploring!

The Agora in the centre of Chania is a covered market selling herbs, spices, olive oil, and every type of olive locally produced.

General Watersports

Nearly all resorts with organised beaches offer water sports of some description depending on the local conditions. They may vary from paragliding, waterskiing, kyaking, banana boats and jet skiing.

Waterpark - Limnoupolis

This great water park is set in a fabulous countryside setting away from the busy resorts of Chania. It’s 8 kilometres from the town of Chania and has a variety of rides from Kamikazi to the Lazy River.

Chania Resort

This is the second largest town on the island and is a perfect blend of old and new. The new areas of Chania have grown around the old town and many international chains of shops can be found. The biggest draw however is the maze of narrow streets where artisans rub shoulders with traditional craftsmen. Some of the old Venetian houses have been converted into hotels and pensions which are situated close to the Venetian harbour. On the east side of the harbour, the last remaining Venetian shipyards can be seen although not in their original state as the quay was constructed in the early part of 20th century preventing ships from entering. A Turkish Mosque which was built in the first half of 17th century sits on the east side of the harbour and is used for various exhibitions.

The vast array of restaurants and tavernas reflect the influences of the occupiers, particularly the Turks in the foods they serve. Take time to peruse the menus outside the establishments – you won’t be disappointed.

War Cemetery Souda Bay

This pristine cemetery is a memorial to British, Australian and New Zealand soldiers and sailors who died during the battles. There are 1,527 graves each marked with a white headstone although sadly many do not have names. This tranquil spot draws many visitors annually who have made long journeys to pay their respects to a family member.

Samaria Gorge

The longest gorge in Europe and at 11 miles long, not for the faint hearted! It is here that the Krikri, the goats unique to Crete can be spotted. The gorge was designated a national park in 1962 and care is taken to protect the delicate ecosystem. For those less energetic visitors, a boat can be taken from Sfakia on the south coast into Aghia Roumeli which is the start of the gorge.

The Villa is very private with good facilities and a fantastic pool. It is spacious and the open plan area is quite cool considering the outside temperature. The bedrooms have air conditioning which at night was a blessing . We made good use of the pool, ping pong and pool table. The location is great and we didn't hire a car it is only a short walk to the supermarket, bakery, restaurants and even shorter walk to the beach. If you want to venture out and go to market or into town, a car is probably cost effective. We stayed for a week and wanted to relax and that is exactly what we did!

Villa was of a high standard and in a good location for exploring Western Crete which is what we had intended. Sally was very helpful and gave us tips and answered questions on any issues we had. We found her to be very helpful.

Very comfortable and spacious - felt at home straight away. Very well equipped and the pool and garden area was just right - secluded and private.
