‘Kerkyra’, as our beautiful green of Corfu is known locally, is currently waking up from her quiet winter’s sleep.
After the hustle, bustle and glorious heat of last year’s summer and the
mellow, warm days of October, she takes off her glad rags and sinks into gentle hibernation before preparations start in earnest once more for the forthcoming season.
Winter for me and the
villa team means closing down from one season and opening up the new! Each year Villa Plus adds something new and exciting to keep you happy and
us busy. We have pool tables and table tennis tables delivered by crane, satellite
dishes installed on roofs, up cliffs and under balconies…alarm systems, key boxes,
Playstation 2s, DVD players etc all installed by our local professionals. This year
we have the most exciting ‘Plus’ of all…we have over 40 villas with heated pools
for 2007! Kostas our pool man is on his rounds installing the new and very much
admired ‘Villa Plus’ pool heaters as I write.
For the local people, winter in Corfu is the start of a very different way of life. Black veil-like nets are laid throughout the olive groves to collect the steadily ripening olives. As the taverna doors close and the villas shut down, the local people move back to their villages to start work gathering and pressing the olives for their fine oil, repairing the stone terraces and, in the case of many of our villa owners, starting repairs, renewals and redecoration of their properties.
Corfu is a wonderful island whatever the season. Winter is a time of relaxation for most with log fires, wonderful clear skies, plenty of local wine and time for friends, family and festivals including Christmas, New Year, the Venetian inspired carnival in February and Easter, which is the largest festival in Greece.
May and June are beautiful; everything is fresh and new; a myriad of

flowers line the roadsides, mountain paths and beaches whilst the scent of flowers and the fresh, crystal sea invigorate and revive even the sleepiest soul. The evenings are long and enchanting with swallows darting overhead and endless, waterside tavernas or chic town cafes to explore and watch the world glide by.

July and August are hot and alive; evenings are long, warm and dreamy with glorious full moons and star spangled skies. September and October are mellow and relaxed as the island once again starts to unwind. In every season you will find places full of life with bars, cafes, nightclubs, restaurants and wonderful shops. And you will find places of complete peace such as the mountain villages, hidden little coves or the elegant back streets and museums of Corfu Town.
All our staff in Corfu have lived here for many years and know the island intimately so they can help you find the very best spots to suit your needs.
So from my own mountainside high above the North East coast with a view of the wide stretching sea and snow capped mountains of the ‘mainland’ (a view I share with so many of our villas) “kalispera” (good evening) and “Kali Chronia” (good year).
