| Looking for some fresh fruit and veg. to take back to your Puerto Pollensa villa? Typical Mallorquin narrow streets lead to the main square, or "plaza" as it is known locally in Puerto Pollensa, where it is relatively quiet apart from Wednesday mornings when the square hosts a colourful market held around 10am until midday, selling everything from fruit and vegetables to clothes and toys. It's the done thing in Mallorca to barter – try speaking Spanish (Espanol ) to get a bargain at the market. Late in the afternoon the square comes alive with children playing together whilst parents keep a watchful eye and enjoy a refreshing drink. |

| From your Majorca villa in Puerto Pollensa everything is nearby. If the prospect of spending time on the beach gets less appealing as your holiday progresses and you also want a day out from your Puerto Pollensa villa. Whisk the family off for some fun time at the Hidropark in nearby Alcudia, a great water based theme park with activities for young children. From giant water slides, flumes, swimming and boating pools to mini go-karts and mini motor boats, the kids won't get bored. There are plenty of fast food restaurants here and next door is a 'super crazy-golf' course. If time is pressing and you want a quick game of golf go to Golf Pollenca, a tricky, 9 hole course set on a small hillside overlooking the sea or if you have more time on your hands, try the 18 hole Golf Alcanada in Alcudia offering marvellous views of the island of Alcanada and the Sierra de Levante mountains in the background. If you like walking, lace up your walking boots and head for the walking trails of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains or if your're into history, the old town of Pollenca is an interesting walk. | To tempt you away from your Majorca villas rent, drive or take a taxi along the Pollenca road and as you enter Old Pollenca you will see a Roman bridge, dated about 123 B.C. one of a few surviving Roman bridges, standing over a small stream. Pollenca is steeped in history and dates back to the 18th century and became a favourite place for painters visiting Mallorca - full of character with its narrow, cobbled streets, busy square, museums, art galleries, restaurants and small cafes. Real history buffs should check out the Nostgra Senyora del Rosari Church next to the Cloister of St Domingo then saunter along to the Museu Marti Vicenc, a small museum in a 300 year old building showing the evolution of mankind, arts and crafts. If you are feeling full of beans, climb the Calvary steps – 365 leading up from the main square to a tiny church which has fantastic views overlooking Pollenca. For every step you climb you will lose one sin, or so legend has it! Wander back down to the square for a lazy tapas lunch then find the fountain in the square called Placa Major with its cockerel images. The fountain is dated 1827. A Sunday market is held in the main square where you can purchase local fruit, vegetables, nuts and spices to eat back at your Puerto Pollensa villa. |
