Sporting Activities In Croatia


Croatia is a popular area for anyone wanting to try their hand at something more active, from novices to veterans. There are 2 golf courses in Istria and a huge host of other sporting facilities including mini golf, football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, athletics, water sports, cycling, paragliding, hang gliding, free climbing, mountain running, horse riding and parachuting! Or, for anyone looking for something a little less active, communal swimming pools and spa facilities can also be found.

Cycling

Cycling is a very popular way of exploring the local areas. There are various trails and routes to explore as well as more professional racing tracks. Cycle through the old towns and villages, or by the sea, stopping at any one of the cafes or restaurants for a well-earned drink or a bite to eat.

Trekking

Croatia is well known for having spectacular scenery and what better way to experience this than on foot through the villages, countryside and along the rocky coastline? There are trails set out for more experiences hikers, some more demanding than others.

Tennis

Istria is well known for its tennis facilities with around 430 clay courts available and the town of Umag hosts the famous ATP Tour Croatia Open.

Horse Riding

There are a choice of horse riding facilities in Istria which cater for both beginners and more experienced riders, with various trekking paths and excursions on offer.

Rino’s farm in Porec caters more for younger, less experienced riders, where children can find out more about the farm animals and there is also a zip-wire!

There are also around 6 ranches, clubs and riding schools in Pula and 2 in Rovinj.

Diving, Porec

In Porec there are 3 diving centres.

Zeus Faber diving centre provides diving and snorkelling facilities for all ages and abilities. For more experienced divers, the centre also arranges excursions to reefs, caves and even wrecks! http://www.zeus-faber.com/eng.html

Diving Centre Porec specialises in exploring the underwater caves of Banjol Island. The caves are anything from 5 – 20m below sea level and are home to a range of fish. http://www.divingcenter-porec.com/

Diving Centre Blue Lagoon is very close to the centre of Porec. A boat will take you to deep waters where you can explore the underwater caves of Banjol Island and wreck of the HMS Coriolanus.

Diving, Pula

Pula has a good number of diving centres which cater for all ages and experiences. All of them explore a number of wrecks in the area as well as the underwater caves, reefs and marine life. Some of the centres also cater for night divers!

Diving, Rovinj

A small number of diving centres can be found in Rovinj, all of which explore the wrecks, caves and underwater reefs of the area.

The SCUBA Valdaliso centre is right on the pier in Rovinj and offers a number of exploration areas as well as diving courses from Try SCUBA to Dive Control Specialist!

Other dive centres include Rovinj-SUB, Mediterraneum Mare Sport and Diving Centre Puffer, all of which offer similar facilities and underwater exploration.

Sailing

Porec, Pula and Rovinj all have marinas where you can hire a boat and sail up the Western coast of Croatia, passing the islands of saints Andrew, Catherine, Peter, John and Nicholas as well as the magnificent Brijuni Islands…

Windsurfing, Porec

ProSurf in Porec offers beginners courses and windsurf hire. There are different courses on offer which last anything from 2 hours to 12 hours split into a week. http://prosurf.com.hr/

Windsurfing, Pula

Pula has 5 windsurfing centres. All offer courses for varied abilities and some even offer boat and kayak rental as well.

Free climbing

There are 9 climbing sites in Istria. The deep valley at Lim Bay, just North of Rovinj, is particularly popular with climbers. Over 7 ½ miles long, the valley has impressive cliffs at one end providing a great opportunity for climbing all year round. The site has around 60 climbing routes up to 25 metres high.

Paragliding

There are a number of different take-off sites for tandem paragliding with an instructor. Kastelir, around 20 minutes drive North East of Porec, or Motovun, around 40 minutes drive, are the nearest sites to our villas.
