Crete is a long fairly narrow island with the capital of the island Iraklion positioned in the centre of the north coast.
The north coast of Crete is the most populated and all the largest towns are dotted along this coastline. Iraklion is the recognised point which separates east and west. The east is well known for the fertile soil which produces an abundance of fruit and vegetables which are then transported to many countries. The west is recognised for the cheese, yoghurt and citrus fruits which are produced.
Whilst Crete can boast of turquoise seas and Blue Flag beaches, there is much much more to this fabulous island.
