March Following Palm Sunday this is the most moving and dramatic celebration that Andalucia has to offer. Sevilla has the most important processions, next Malaga, followed by Granada and then Cordoba.

March/April (depends on calendar dates from the middle ages) The saints' images and ornately decorated floats parade through the streets. Some of the most outstanding celebrations are at Malaga, Sevilla, Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz), Estepa (Sevilla), Ejica (Sevilla), Benalmadena (where scenes of the Passion Play are acted by villages, Arcos de la Frontera (recommended).

First week in April Granada - A Christian fiesta with a long tradition.

Second half of April A world famous event with lots of flamenco, horsemanship, singing, dancing, eating and drinking throughout the week.

Late April/early May Cordoba - Plazas and patios are decorated with crosses made of flowers. Prizes are given for the best crosses with tapas, wine and music all close at hand.

First week of May Cadiz - A must for any horse lover to see Andalucia and its traditionally famous horses. Lots of flamenco costumes, dancing and singing.

Second week in June Marbella - Spectacular fiesta of San Bernabe the patron saint of Marbella. Flamenco, gastronomy, processions, concerts and fireworks.

June Ronda - Processions of colourful floats and horseback riders followed by a flamenco mass in the local church.

June Celebrated all over Andalucia with fireworks, huge bonfires and the burning of effigies. Some of the best celebrations at Fuengirola, Estepona, Cadiz and Benalmadena.

First week in July Everyone in the family dresses up in local costume with lots of processions, music and flamenco.

First week in July Boats laden with flowers and a figure of the virgin are carried through the streets down to the beaches and this figure the patron saint of fishermen is put to sea on a fishing boat to bless the waters. Malaga capital, Marbella, Torremolinos (Carihuela), Estepona, Nerja, Roquetas de Mar, Fuengirola and Chipiona.

July/August A flamenco and classical music festival in the Nerja Caves. Dates depend on the calendar.

August Usually the second week of August. Lots of music, dancing, processions, eating and drinking both night and day.

August Benalmadena celebrates a Flamenco festival which includes many important musicians and dancers.

Last two weeks of August Almunecar (Granada province) - Impressive coastal processions of the Virgen de la Antigua the patron of the town.

First Sunday in September This grape harvest is held in Manilva where colourful larger than life figures take to the streets. A prize is given for the best disguise and there's grape sampling too.

September Mijas - A lively fair with music, dancing, concerts, competitions, plus fireworks which takes place in the attractive 'white village' of Mijas.

Second week in September Chipiona (Cadiz) - The harvest is praised and the fiesta is generally enjoyed by everyone.

Usually second week of October Fuengirola - A popular fair with lots of horses and carriages, flamenco and musical events.
